Chapter 1: The Crimson Orb’s Whisper

#content-1

Part 1

🏡 **My dying father called me home for a seven-day vigil—but his ‘peace’ was a trap, binding me to a terrifying family secret.**

My father, Eleazer Finch, abandoned me when I was a child.

When his lawyer called to say he was dying, I grudgingly agreed to spend a week at his sprawling estate in the Berkshires.

We tentatively found a fragile peace as I cared for him.

But on the seventh day, he took his last breath, his eyes wide with an unspoken secret.

Later that night, the family estate’s longtime executor told me my father hadn’t called me home for reconciliation.

He’d called me for a meticulously planned, deeply unsettling purpose that was now sealed by his death.

Despite my resentment, I continued to care for Eleazer, moving through the expansive, quiet rooms of the estate. One afternoon, while tidying his study, my gaze landed on a small, antique music box. It was the very one he’d given me as a child, long forgotten.

I picked it up, feeling the familiar cool weight of the ornate metal. A small, almost invisible latch on the side caught my attention. I pressed it, and a hidden compartment sprung open.

Inside, nestled in dark velvet, lay a faded, hand-stitched sampler. I unfolded the delicate cloth, my fingers tracing the aged threads. The message was cryptic, stitched in an old-fashioned script.

It read: “Seven days, the first-born’s vigil, beneath the crimson orb, unbinds the shadow’s hold.”

The words chilled me, transforming my week of reluctant caretaking into something far more sinister. What had I truly been called here for?

Part 2

The days blurred into a tense rhythm of caretaking. Each hour deepened my silent questions as Eleazer’s strength faded visibly.

His body grew frail, his breath growing shallower. On the seventh evening, a strange quiet settled over the house, heavy and charged with an unknown expectation.

I sat by his bedside. The room was lit only by the last vestiges of twilight outside the window.

Suddenly, Eleazer’s eyes snapped open. They were clear and sharp for the first time in days.

He reached out. His frail hand gripped my wrist with surprising force.

His gaze, once so distant, burned into mine with desperate urgency. He whispered, his voice a raspy breath, barely audible.

“The pact… it demands… the Blood Moon… watch for the sign, Elara.”
