Part 1

🤵🏽‍♂️ **My father shamed our heritage at his second wedding – but I held the evidence that would unravel his entire past.**

My father, Kenji, asked me to attend his second wedding as a sign of respect for his new life.

Two hours later, after his speech mocked my mother and our entire heritage, I was holding the evidence that would unravel everything he thought he knew about his past.

I just wanted him to see the truth.

I didn’t know it would shatter his carefully built facade and leave the entire ballroom in a stunned, uncomfortable silence.

The wedding hall glittered with silk and gold, a stark contrast to the churning dread in my stomach. I had come, as Kenji demanded, to show “respect for his new life,” but every lavish detail felt like a slight against my mother, Akari.

Then, my father took the microphone. His new wife, Sarah Jenkins, glowed beside him, oblivious to the storm he was about to unleash.

“Sarah, you are my escape,” Kenji declared, his voice booming. “My escape from a stifling relic of a marriage, from outdated traditions that held me back.”

A collective gasp swept through the Japanese-American guests. Akari, sitting rigidly at a nearby table, flinched, her face paling beneath her dignified composure.

My father continued, oblivious or uncaring. He called his freedom from our heritage his “greatest achievement.”

My hands clenched. A burning heat rose in my chest, a desperate need to defend my mother, to expose Kenji’s callousness for everyone to see.

But how?

Part 2

Akari, heartbroken, rose and moved stiffly towards the ladies’ room, her head held high despite her visible pain. I pushed past tables, my eyes fixed on Kenji, who was now laughing with Sarah.

“Father,” I said, my voice tight. “You owe Mom an apology.”

Kenji’s smile faltered, a flicker of annoyance crossing his face. Before he could speak, a hand clamped down on my arm.

It was Uncle Hideo, his grip firm, his face set hard. He pulled me away from the small crowd forming around Kenji.

“What do you think you’re doing, Hiroki?” he hissed, his voice low but sharp. “This is not the time to air our dirty laundry.”

He glared at me, his eyes full of reproach. “You are disrespecting the family, the elders, and your father’s new life.”

His words stung, isolating me in a room full of people. But as I watched Akari’s retreating figure, my resolve only hardened.
