My husband tried to financially ruin me while I was in the hospital, but he forgot who owned the entire medical group.
Part 1
**💔 My Husband Threatened to Financially Ruin Me in My Hospital Bed — He Had No Idea What He Was Up Against.**
I woke up from emergency surgery with a shattered leg and a new titanium rod, the anesthetic still heavy in my veins.
My husband David visited, not to comfort me, but to demand I leave the hospital immediately to tend to his ailing mother.
He leaned close and hissed that if I refused, he’d personally ensure my expensive medical care was cut off.
My head throbbed, blurring the edges of the sterile room.
I tried to push myself up, but a sharp pain shot through my leg, forcing me back onto the pillows.
David watched, unmoving.
I whispered, my voice hoarse.
“You can’t do that.”
“How would I pay for anything?”
A cruel smile touched his lips. He pulled out his phone, tapping at the screen.
“Oh, don’t worry about payments, Elara. I’ve already taken care of it.”
He tucked the phone away.
“I’ve transferred all liquid funds from our joint account into a separate one. For safekeeping, naturally.”
My breath hitched. The implication settled like a lead weight.
“You… you cleaned us out?”
“Just managing our assets, darling,” David said, his tone saccharine.
“Considering your current state, I thought it best I take over your finances for a while.”
My eyes darted to the IV bag, then to the call button. I felt a cold dread spread through me, deeper than the surgical pain. How was I supposed to get a simple bottle of water, let alone survive this, with no access to any money?
Part 2
I gripped the flimsy hospital sheet, a plan slowly forming despite the fog of pain. I had to act.
Later, I managed to reach Maya Singh, my long-time family lawyer, on the hospital phone. I recounted David’s threats in a low, tight voice, asking her to investigate his recent financial maneuvers.
A few days into my recovery, Dr. Aris Patel, my attending orthopedic physician, came for his rounds. He sat on the edge of my bed, his expression serious.
“Elara, we received the final report on your accident,” he began, looking directly at me.
“It wasn’t just a slip. The home inspector found severe structural rot in the main staircase.”
My mind raced, remembering David’s promise.
“He noted it had been neglected for months, despite a repair order that was supposedly completed ages ago.”
My breath caught in my throat. David was supposed to have fixed those stairs months ago.
