“No time,” Maya whispered, pulling a small, black satellite dish and a portable router from her backpack. “He’ll hear the fire alarm. This might give us an edge.”

I fumbled to connect the satellite kit to my backup laptop, my hands shaking. The dish found its signal quickly, a small green light blinking. I hit ‘Go Live’ on the Dead Air podcast channel, titling the stream in urgent capitals: “THE REAL CLARA VANCE CONFESSION – LIVE.”

My voice, usually steady behind the mic, wavered. “My name is Leo Carver. I’m the host of Dead Air. And I’m about to show you the real killer.”

The viewer count climbed, a red ticker surging past 1,000, then 10,000, then 42,000 in under four minutes. My heart pounded, a frantic rhythm against the static hum of the stream.

Suddenly, a crash from upstairs. The basement door, which Julian had locked earlier, splintered inward. Julian stood there, backlit, a heavy crowbar clutched in his hand. His eyes, usually so charming, were wide and feral.

“What are you doing, Leo?!” he roared, taking a step down. Arthur stood behind him, looking stunned.

I spun the laptop, pointing the webcam directly at Julian. “This is Julian Carver,” I said into the mic, my voice gaining strength. “My brother. The man who orchestrated Clara Vance’s murder, who framed Sam Gable, and who’s trying to steal my inheritance.”

I scrolled rapidly, displaying screenshots of his encrypted bank transfers, the shell company details, the exact trust fund numbers. “He’s leveraging a $1.4 million inheritance, live, right now, for over 42,000 viewers.”

Julian lunged, crowbar raised.
