Chapter 11: The Purge Log

#content-1

The encrypted drive was a fortress. Elena immediately enlisted her former tech colleague, a brilliant but eccentric data forensics expert named Ben, working out of a cluttered basement office. For 48 tense hours, they toiled, lines of code scrolling endlessly across multiple monitors.

“This is military-grade encryption, Maria,” Ben had said, running a hand through his perpetually messy hair. “She didn’t want anyone getting into this.”

But Elena and Ben were relentless. Finally, late one night, Elena called me, her voice hoarse with exhaustion and triumph.

“We’re in, Maria,” she announced. “We’ve cracked it.”

They had accessed the drive’s internal logs. Amidst countless archived documents and old project files, Elena found a specific entry that made my blood run cold.

It read: “Security system purge initiated – Caldwell direct order.”

The timestamp was chillingly precise: 10:47 PM. Barely an hour after the corporate gala where Leo was kicked. Veronica had ordered a system-wide deletion of security footage.

“She wanted to erase everything,” Elena explained. “Not just the kick, but any other ‘loose ends’ from that night. This is proof of intent, Maria. Proof of a deliberate cover-up.”

The raw footage itself was still elusive, fragmented into countless digital shards. But the log entry was undeniable: Veronica had actively destroyed evidence. This was the digital smoking gun, confirming her ruthless efficiency.
