Chapter 14: The Final Legal Maneuver

As the layers of his deception began to peel away, Tyler Finch’s public attacks grew increasingly desperate and erratic. He was no longer the composed, concerned executive. The controlled image he had projected began to crack, revealing the frantic, cornered man beneath.

He held an impromptu press conference outside his former Aetheria office, a futile gesture given his revoked access. Standing in front of the building he could no longer enter, he railed against Marcus Holloway, accusing him of professional misconduct, of colluding with Lena to illegally seize company assets. The irony was lost on him.

“This is a witch hunt!” he shouted into a cluster of microphones, his voice hoarse with indignation. “Dr. Jensen, in her fragile state, is being manipulated by her lawyer to orchestrate a hostile takeover of my rightful place!”

He demanded an immediate, independent audit of Aetheria Systems, claiming Lena was making reckless financial moves that would bankrupt the company. He wasn’t aware that Izzy Rossi’s findings, supported by Marcus’s audit, had already exposed his own financial misdeeds.

The specific cruelty of his rhetoric was apparent. He was not just attacking Lena’s mental state but trying to sow seeds of doubt about her competence and ethics as a business leader, an attack that struck at the core of her professional identity. He was deliberately attempting to dismantle her career, just as she was dismantling his.

Tyler also began making aggressive, unsolicited calls to minor Aetheria shareholders. He threatened them with legal action, with public exposure, if they didn’t publicly support his claims and vote against Lena’s new appointments to the board. His calls were often rambling, laced with thinly veiled threats and wild accusations.

“You’re either with me or against me!” he reportedly screamed at one bewildered small investor, his voice raw with frustration. “If you side with that unstable woman, you’ll lose everything!”

These frantic calls, intended to intimidate, only served to expose his unraveling state. Many of the shareholders, alarmed by his behavior and the public accusations, simply forwarded his voicemails and emails to Marcus Holloway, adding to the growing mountain of evidence against him.

His once-loyal PR team, witnessing his increasingly erratic behavior and the undeniable evidence leaking from Izzy Rossi’s pending exposé, began to quietly distance themselves. Emails from his main publicist suddenly went unanswered. Calls to his media advisors were shunted to junior associates who offered only vague platitudes.

Tyler, however, seemed oblivious to the crumbling support around him. He genuinely believed he was rallying his forces, that his public outcry would sway opinion. He continued to give interviews, his claims growing wilder, his accusations more outlandish. He even started a social media campaign, posting long, vitriolic diatribes against Lena and Marcus, accusing them of conspiracy.

Each post, each interview, each threatening phone call was a self-inflicted wound, further damaging his credibility and adding to the case building against him. He was a desperate man flailing, unable to see the trap he was weaving for himself.

Marcus Holloway, receiving daily updates from his network of informants within Aetheria, simply allowed Tyler to continue.

“He’s making our job easier,” Marcus told Lena during their next meeting, a grim satisfaction in his voice. “Every public outburst, every threat, is concrete evidence of his desperation and erratic judgment. He’s proving our case for us.”

Lena, seeing the reports, felt a weary vindication. Tyler’s behavior was exactly as she predicted. His ego would not allow him to retreat quietly. He had to fight, even if it meant destroying himself in the process.

She looked at the silver clock on her bedside table, the discarded gift from Tyler. It felt like a metaphor for his entire existence: beautiful on the surface, but hollow, easily discarded when no longer serving his immediate purpose. His relentless self-serving actions, now exposed for all to see, were the ultimate petty cruelty. He was willing to sacrifice everything, including his own reputation, in a futile attempt to regain what he believed was his.
