The phone rang, jangling their nerves. Clara snatched it up. Her face went pale as she listened.
“Evelyn,” Clara whispered, her eyes wide, “Arthur just issued an emergency Department of Defense arrest warrant for you.”
Evelyn felt a cold dread. “What for?”
“The official charge is stealing classified counter-intelligence documents,” Clara said, her voice tight. “He’s claiming you’re a Soviet intelligence spy, under severe psychological distortion.”
