The 4,000-Meter Door: A Saturation Diver Uncovers His Cult-Leader Father's Abyssal Vault
A dull rumble vibrated through the deep, a sound I hadn’t heard in days. It was the approach of a large vessel, followed by the distinctive thwack-thwack of helicopter blades.
They were here.
Above, on the surface, a thick shroud of heavy fog clung to the *M.V. Leviathan*. Through the swirling mist, a Coast Guard helicopter descended, its powerful rotors whipping the air.
FBI SWAT operators, dark figures laden with gear, rappelled swiftly onto the *Leviathan*’s helipad. They moved with silent, deadly precision.
A fierce standoff erupted on the main deck. Cult guards, armed with rudimentary weapons, were quickly subdued by the federal agents.
But Captain O’Shea was nowhere to be seen. He had anticipated their arrival.
Agents pounded on the reinforced door of the bridge wheelhouse. Inside, O’Shea had barricaded himself, his face pressed against the glass.
Through the ship’s external comms, O’Shea’s voice, raspy and defiant, echoed across the deck. “Don’t come any closer!”
He pointed a trembling hand at the manual winch brake control, a heavy lever beside him. “The bell is tethered! One move, and I release the brake. Arthur Higgins and your evidence will be at the bottom of the abyssal trench!”
The federal agents froze, their weapons lowered slightly. O’Shea held the ultimate leverage: my life, suspended thousands of meters below, a human pendulum over the void.
The desperate standoff began, a silent war of nerves on the fog-shrouded deck, with my fate hanging in the balance.
