Chapter 14: The Syndicate Accord

#content-1

The brass tray still held the smoldering ash of Arthur’s fraudulent documents. The air was thick with the scent of burnt paper and the lingering tension of a major power shift. The syndicate board, a collection of stern, unyielding faces, convened immediately after Arthur’s resignation.

Eli, who had rejoined the group after Marcus’s arrest, stood near the back, his gaze fixed on me.

One of the elder board members, a man named Henderson with a grizzled beard, cleared his throat. “Arthur Krenshaw has formally resigned and transferred all major assets to a family trust for Sarah Halloway, with Silas Halloway designated as trustee.”

He paused, his eyes sweeping the room. “The evidence presented today, including the posthumous letter from Evelyn Halloway and the archived ‘Grizzly-76’ logs, confirms the true nature of the $450,000 debt and the subsequent fraudulent claims.”

A murmur went through the room. The syndicate operated on its own code, one where internal honor and documented truth held more sway than external law.

Henderson’s gaze settled on Marcus, who was still being held by guards, glaring defiantly. “Marcus Krenshaw’s attempt at an armed coup, based on false pretenses and a clear breach of syndicate protocols, will not be tolerated.”

A vote was called. Swift, unanimous.

“Marcus Krenshaw is hereby dismissed from any leadership role within Krenshaw Tactical and the broader syndicate,” Henderson declared. “His actions are deemed a violation of the code of honor.”

Marcus snarled, but the guards tightened their grip.

“Furthermore,” Henderson continued, addressing me directly, “the regional underworld tribunal recognizes Silas Halloway as the rightful trustee of the Krenshaw family assets. All outstanding legal actions against the Halloway ranch, initiated by Arthur Krenshaw, are hereby dismissed.”

He thumped his fist on the table, a final, decisive gesture. “This dispute, between the Krenshaw and Halloway families, is officially closed under our internal code of honor. No police or state authorities will be contacted. The matter is resolved.”

The decision was final. The syndicate, operating entirely within its own, shadowy jurisdiction, had delivered its verdict. There would be no arrests, no public scandal. Only an internal justice, delivered by old rules and hidden truths, confirming my authority and ending Arthur’s reign.
