Chapter 16: Resolution Arc 1 — Build-Up

#content-1

👉 Previous Decision: You discovered Chloe’s clue about temporal memory-loop sedatives.

Chloe’s words echoed in Maya’s mind: “the wall clock turn backward.” She knew where to look. During her next shift, when the memory wipe hummed through the air, Maya made her way to Ward C’s main common area.

The wall clock, a bland, corporate fixture, hung above a small lounge area. Maya watched the hands, then the ceiling fans. The moment the faint hum began, the second hand on the clock seemed to pause, then jump back milliseconds before continuing.

She found a small, almost invisible panel behind the clock housing. With a delicate twist of a paperclip she’d kept concealed, it popped open. Inside, a mess of wires, circuits, and a dual-sign-off authorization sheet.

Her name, Maya Lin, was at the top. The document authorized a “multi-year permanent memory severance contract.” Signed by Julian Kincaid, six months ago. Just hours before their breakup. He hadn’t just placed her on the Severance Floor; he had intended to keep her there, under his control, indefinitely.
