Chapter 18: Five Years Later

The room fell silent once more, Vincent’s desperate curses muffled by the guards who now held him tightly, his flailing replaced by strained immobility. Giovanni Rossi sat perfectly still, his gaze fixed on Vincent, a quiet, terrifying rage settling in his eyes. The last vestiges of his earlier calm had vanished, replaced by a chilling resolve.

“Release him,” Gio commanded, his voice low but sharp, cutting through the tension.

The guards hesitated for a moment, then slowly loosened their grip, though their hands remained poised. Vincent stood shakily, his face ashen, his hair disheveled, his eyes darting frantically between Gio and Carmen, a desperate, cornered animal.

Gio finally spoke, his voice resonating with an authority that left no room for appeal. “Vincent DeMarco,” he began, each word a hammer blow, “you have betrayed my trust. You have stolen from the family. You have enriched yourself at our expense, aligned with rivals, and deliberately sabotaged our ventures for your own greed.” He paused, his gaze burning into Vincent. “And you have brought shame upon the Rossi name with your personal brutalities, documented meticulously by your own wife.”

Vincent opened his mouth to protest, to beg, but Gio cut him off with a raised hand. “Silence. Your pleas are hollow. Your lies are exposed.”

“Effective immediately,” Gio continued, his voice devoid of emotion, “you are stripped of all rank within the Rossi family. All of your assets—every penny, every property, every business you have touched—are seized and returned to the family coffers.” He watched Vincent’s face, seeing the man’s entire world collapse in real time.

“You are hereby disowned,” Gio pronounced, the word a final, irrevocable severing. “You are exiled from Rossi territory. Should you ever attempt to return, or interfere with any family business, or attempt to contact Amelia Cross again, you will be met with lethal force. Consider yourself a dead man walking if you cross that boundary.” The words were delivered with a chilling finality, a death sentence pronounced without a raised voice or a hint of emotion.

Vincent gasped, a pathetic, strangled sound escaping his lips. “No! Boss, please! I beg you! Give me another chance! I’ll make it right! I’ll repay everything!” He scrambled forward, attempting to fall to his knees, but the guards swiftly intervened, holding him firmly upright.

Gio merely stared, his eyes cold and unforgiving. “There is no making it right, Vincent. You broke the most sacred rule: loyalty. You betrayed us from within. Your ambition consumed you, and now it has destroyed you.” He made a subtle gesture with his hand. “Get him out of my sight. Now.”

The guards moved swiftly, seizing Vincent by the arms. He struggled, a torrent of desperate pleas and incoherent curses spilling from his lips, his voice hoarse with panic and despair. “Carmen, you witch! Amelia, you’ll regret this! Gio, you’ll pay for this!” His words echoed through the room as he was forcibly dragged out, his once-powerful presence reduced to a whimpering, struggling mess. The door slammed shut behind them, silencing his furious cries, leaving an unsettling void in its wake.

A profound silence filled the room, broken only by the soft rustle of papers as Gio picked up Amelia’s ledger. He looked at Carmen, a flicker of something akin to respect in his eyes. “Ms. Rivera,” he said, his voice softer now, “you have done a great service to this family. Amelia Cross has shown a courage that few men possess.” He picked up the USB drive, turning it over in his fingers. “She understood what was truly at stake.”

Carmen felt a wave of relief wash over her, so profound it almost buckled her knees. She had done it. Amelia was free. Justice, raw and brutal, had been delivered by the only authority Vincent truly respected. The image of Vincent, broken and banished, would quickly spread through the underworld, his “perfect husband” facade utterly shattered, his name now synonymous with traitor and disgraced capo. The consequences were concrete, immediate, and utterly devastating for him. His life’s ambition, his carefully cultivated power, all gone in a single, unceremonious judgment.
