Chapter 17: A Fated Discovery

#content-1

The old Holloway cottage was even more dilapidated than I remembered. Dust motes danced in the slivers of sunlight piercing through grimy windows.

Leo led me directly to the room from his dreams. The heavy wooden chest stood in the corner, exactly as he had described, covered in a thick layer of dust.

“This is it, Mama,” he whispered, a thrill of nervous energy in his voice.

He moved towards the chest, his prosthetic leg catching on a loose floorboard near its base. He stumbled, a small grunt escaping his lips, and the board gave way with a sharp crack.

A hollow space was revealed beneath. My breath hitched in my throat.

Leo, his eyes wide with a mixture of shock and wonder, reached into the darkness. His small fingers grasped something brittle and papery.

With a gasp, he pulled out a bundle of old, brittle letters, tied with a faded ribbon, and a single, yellowed photograph. It was the culmination of his prophetic dreams, a moment of fate-driven discovery.
