The Hole in Wall 4B: A Hollywood Sound Designer's Nightmare
👉 Previous Decision: You chose to cross the hallway and forcefully demand access to condo 4B to uncover the truth.
The hallway air felt cold against my face. I walked across the plush carpet, each step a heavy thud in the silence. The door to Unit 4B looked like any other, a standard apartment entrance, but a faint, metallic tang hung around it.
My hand reached for the doorknob. It turned with an unexpected click. Unlocked.
A low growl rumbled in my chest. This wasn’t a mistake. This was an invitation, or a trap. I pushed the door open, slipping inside. The dim light from the hallway barely illuminated the space.
The room smelled faintly of ozone and stale drywall dust. A large, complex metal frame stood in the center, a skeletal rig draped in thick black fabric. My eyes darted around, searching for the figure.
Then I saw her. The woman in the white silk dress was there, just as I remembered, her back to me. Except now, I could see the wires, the hydraulic lines, the intricate servo motors at her neck and shoulders.
My breath hitched. It was a prop. An animatronic.
I walked closer, my shoes silent on the industrial carpet. A small, almost imperceptible hole was drilled into the drywall, perfectly aligning with where my bed had been. My fingers traced the tiny opening. This wasn’t random; it was precise.
Behind the figure, a pair of compact, black speakers were mounted low on the wall, almost hidden by the rig itself. They pulsed with an almost inaudible hum. I recognized the signature of ultra-low-frequency infrasound, tuned to a brain-addling 19 Hz. It was designed to induce paranoia and unease without conscious detection.
On a small, collapsible table, a folder lay open. My hands trembled as I picked it up. Inside were lease documents for Unit 4B. The tenant name was a shell company, but a signed authorization form was attached. The name at the bottom made my blood run cold: Arthur Pendelton, the real estate agent who sold me my condo. And beneath his signature, a personal authorization from Marcus Brody.
Marcus. My business partner. The man who co-founded Kincaid-Brody FX with me. The animatronic’s face was still turned away, but I recognized the cold, hard plaster. It was Clara’s death mask. My sister’s face, now a silent participant in this macabre, mechanical torment.
