When a Ruthless Celebrity Stepfather Forces His Wrangler Stepdaughter to Kneel Before a $2 Million Show Bull on Live TV for Her $10 Million Estate, Her Secret Command Triggers a Rampage.
The VIP stage groaned, the ornate antique chest listing precariously as Brahma King’s fury continued. Jackson Calhoun, my stepfather, stumbled back, tripping over a velvet rope. His face was a mask of pure, unadulterated fear.
My heart hammered against my ribs, but a strange calm settled over me. This was my moment.
I still held the lead rope I’d used to guide Brahma King into the arena. It was useless now, but a familiar weight in my hand. I dropped it, making sure it landed with a soft thud. It drew the bull’s attention, if only for a second.
“Hey!” I yelled, my voice ringing out across the shocked arena. “Hey, Brahma!”
The bull turned his massive head. His eyes, still wild, locked onto me. I didn’t run. Running was for prey.
Instead, I took a step back, then another, slowly moving towards the heart of the VIP stage. I kept my movements smooth, deliberate. A wrangler’s movements.
Brahma King followed my gaze, his heavy breath steaming in the cool arena air. He took a heavy, thundering step. Then another. He wasn’t charging me, not directly. He was tracking.
Jackson, sprawled on the stage floor, stared at me, his mouth agape. “Maya, you… you control him!”
I ignored him, focused on the bull. The centerpiece antique chest was almost directly behind me now. It was a massive oak trunk, dark and polished, festooned with brass fittings. It had been used as a prop in Jackson’s first Western film, or so the network publicity claimed.
I took one last step, placing myself directly between Brahma King and the chest. Then, with a subtle shift of my weight, I turned my body slightly, exposing the chest as if it were a new, unexpected obstacle.
Brahma King’s rage was a force of nature, but it could be guided. He perceived the chest as a barrier, a challenge. He lowered his head again, a low growl rumbling in his throat.
“Get out of the way!” Jackson shrieked, scrambling to his feet, but his voice was drowned out by the rising crescendo of the bull’s anger.
With an earth-shattering roar, Brahma King charged. Not at me, but past me, straight at the gleaming oak chest.
The impact was catastrophic. The ancient wood shrieked in protest, then exploded. Brass hinges flew. Panels shattered into a thousand splinters. The chest, once a symbol of Western history, disintegrated into kindling.
And from its shattered remains, a torrent of gold bars spilled across the dirt floor.
Not old, dusty props. These were modern ingots, gleaming bright yellow, each stamped with the logo of the “First Commercial Bank of Texas” and a date: 1998. They clattered and rolled, catching the stadium lights.
Amongst the scattered gold, a single, water-stained parchment envelope, thick and sealed, lay open, its contents partially exposed.
The arena went silent again, a silence even deeper than before. The cameras, which had zoomed in on the bull’s rampage, now focused on the unexpected glitter on the ground.
Jackson stared, his face ghostly pale, his terror now laced with a horrifying realization. He made a guttural noise, a choked gasp. He knew exactly what this was.
