Chapter 5: The Final Betrayal

#content-1

The urgency intensified with each passing day. Julian was accelerating his timeline. He had convened an emergency board meeting, citing Nathaniel’s “recent managerial lapses” and the “need for immediate restructuring” to address Thorne Innovations’ struggling financial health. It was a blatant power play, designed to force a vote on his proposed leadership changes.

“He’s moving faster than we anticipated,” Elara said, pacing my small living room, her laptop open on my coffee table. “He’s probably nervous. He knows we’re digging.”

“We need to find out his ultimate plan for Eleanor,” I stated, my voice firm. “The texts from Davies proved he’s willing to blackmail and steal. What about her?”

Leo, emboldened by Maya’s newfound safety and the brief reunion with his son, offered to help. He had a surprising knack for uncovering digital footprints, a skill he’d honed during his previous work as a freelance tech consultant.

“Julian is arrogant,” Leo stated. “He probably kept records of everything, thinking he’d never be caught.”

He was right. We focused our search on Julian’s personal cloud storage, a service he frequently used for his “confidential” files, thinking it was impenetrable. Elara and Leo, working together, managed to gain access, meticulously sifting through encrypted folders. It was a race against time. The board meeting was scheduled for the end of the week.

Then, late one night, a single, devastating thread of text messages appeared. It was buried deep within Julian’s personal files, meticulously hidden among countless mundane documents. This was Twist 6.

Julian had been exchanging messages with an offshore financial consultant, detailing his plans for Eleanor Thorne’s remaining share block.

*Julian (2 weeks ago): “Once the restructuring goes through, confirm the transfer of Eleanor Thorne’s remaining Class B shares to the ‘Oasis Holdings’ trust. Use the clause from the initial agreement – ‘failure to meet financial obligations.’ Make it look watertight.”*

*Consultant (2 weeks ago): “Understood. The ‘failure to meet financial obligations’ clause is sound for the transfer. It will be executed immediately upon your confirmation of full control.”*

*Julian (1 week ago): “Excellent. And the child? Once Oasis Holdings is secured, arrange for his return to Maya Singh. My involvement concludes at that point. No loose ends.”*

I felt a cold dread spread through me, chilling me to the bone. He wasn’t just using Eleanor; he planned to strip her of everything, making it look like her own financial mismanagement. And the child? He was to be discarded, sent back to Maya once his usefulness as a prop was over. His supposed affection for Eleanor and the boy was a complete fabrication, entirely transactional. He planned to take her last significant asset, her shares, and then disappear.

“He was going to leave her with nothing,” I whispered, showing Elara the messages. “And he was going to abandon the child once he got what he wanted.”

Elara’s face was pale with shock and fury. “My grandmother… He knew she was lonely. He knew she craved a grandchild. He cultivated that image, all to steal her shares.”

Nathaniel, still largely oblivious, was spiraling deeper into his own world. He had retreated further, refusing to engage with the mounting pressure from Julian, convinced it would all “blow over.” Eleanor, in her grief-stricken vulnerability, clung tighter to the image of Julian as her devoted business partner and the child as her grandson, even as Julian secretly pulled the strings of her financial ruin.

“We have everything,” I declared, my voice trembling with a potent mix of anger and determination. “The Henderson reports, Davies’s falsified valuations, the patent acquisition, Maya’s coercion, and now, this. His plan for Eleanor. This is it.”

“He thinks he’s untouchable,” Elara said, her eyes burning with resolve. “He thinks he’s played us all for fools.”

“He won’t get away with it,” I replied, the words a quiet promise.

We spent the next two days preparing for the confrontation. We meticulously organized all the evidence into a comprehensive dossier: printed emails, texts, financial records, copies of the Henderson reports, Maya’s coerced documents. Elara cross-referenced everything, creating a timeline of Julian’s deceit. Leo wrote a detailed affidavit recounting his experience with Maya and Julian.

“We need to make sure this is delivered at the right moment,” Elara stressed. “During the board meeting. When he’s at his most confident.”

“He’s proposing the vote to assume control,” I pointed out. “That’s when he’ll feel invincible.”

“Exactly,” Elara agreed. “We hit him when he thinks he’s won.”

My stomach churned with nerves, but a new kind of energy coursed through me. I was no longer the quiet admin assistant. I was a protector, a truth-seeker. My loyalty to Nathaniel had evolved into something bigger: a fierce dedication to justice.

The consequences of our actions would be far-reaching, I knew. Thorne Innovations might not survive this scandal. Nathaniel’s reputation would be shattered. Eleanor would be heartbroken. But allowing Julian to succeed was not an option. This was our only chance. We had to stop him, publicly and definitively, regardless of the cost.
