👉 Previous Decision: You chose to push forward despite the smear campaign and confront Arthur at the summit venue.

The air at the Apex Analytics annual shareholder summit vibrated with nervous energy. Limousines idled, their tinted windows reflecting the grey morning sky. Reporters, micro-phones gripped tight, jockeyed for position behind velvet ropes. Shareholders in expensive suits milled about, their faces reflecting either anticipation or skepticism.

I stood across the street, a lump in my throat, the copies of the bank statements hidden in a folder under my arm. My eyes scanned the crowd, looking for Arthur. Every few minutes, I checked my reflection in a store window, confirming the tremor in my hands. The smear campaign had done its work; I felt exposed, vulnerable, despite the truth I carried.

Then, his limousine pulled up. Arthur Halloway emerged, impeccably dressed, a practiced smile on his face. He waved to the waiting cameras, a few shareholders applauding politely. Maya was not with him.

He began to walk toward the main entrance, surrounded by Marcus Devlin and a phalanx of security guards. A cluster of reporters surged forward, shouting questions about Apex’s financial outlook. Arthur’s smile remained fixed.

This was it. My one chance. I took a deep breath, the metallic taste of fear in my mouth, and stepped into the street. Cars honked, a security guard barked. I pushed past them, my eyes locked on Arthur.

“Arthur Halloway!” I shouted, my voice cracking slightly.

He turned, his eyes narrowing as he recognized me. His smile faltered, replaced by a flicker of annoyance, then icy disdain. He said something to Marcus, who immediately started to move towards me.

But I was faster. I ran, dodging past the security detail, until I was just a few feet from him, right in front of the lead anchor from Channel 7 News, whose camera crew pivoted instantly towards the commotion. The noise of the crowd, the flashing of cameras, the shouting of questions—it all swirled around me, a chaotic vortex.

Arthur’s face was a mask of furious composure. He clenched his jaw, his eyes darting between me and the hungry reporters. The moment of truth.
