👉 Previous Decision: You chose Option A – Confront Davenport verbally on the dispatch floor with the text evidence.
I stood up, pushing back from the console, the chair scraping loudly against the floor. The few other dispatchers turned their heads, curiosity etched on their faces.
“Director Davenport,” I said, my voice ringing with a conviction I didn’t entirely feel. “I have proof of your corruption.”
I gestured to the screen, where Leo’s relayed texts were still visible. “These messages show you hired someone to break into my house, to steal audit logs that prove you’ve been skimming municipal emergency funds.”
Davenport’s face remained remarkably calm. He stepped past me, casually glancing at the screen. He let out a low chuckle, a sound filled with practiced disbelief.
“Maya, you really do need a break,” he said, turning to address the room. His voice was smooth, regretful. “Her son’s at home alone, she’s been worried sick all night, and now she’s fabricating evidence.”
A few of the night shift crew exchanged glances. Tired eyes, long hours, the usual stress. They didn’t know me. Not like this.
“She’s been showing severe signs of fatigue and paranoia,” Davenport continued, his eyes sweeping across their faces. “A dispatcher can’t operate under such… stress.”
He picked up his desk phone, his gaze never leaving mine. “Security to the dispatch floor. Dispatcher Novak requires assistance.”
My heart sank. He had turned it on me. Just like that. The evidence was right there, but his words, his authority, were more powerful.
“You won’t get away with this, Harlan,” I hissed, my hands clenched into fists at my sides.
He just offered a placating smile. “I already have, Maya.”
