Chapter 7: The Evidence Laid Bare

#content-1

The simulation dragged on, Arthur making grand, sweeping statements that seemed to actively undermine his own case. Finally, Judge Holbrook’s voice cut through the strained atmosphere.

“This concludes the preliminary presentation of evidence. We will now proceed to the final submission phase. Lead counsel, support counsel, please present your final compiled logs and any additional relevant findings.”

Arthur leaned back, a triumphant, almost manic grin on his face. He pulled a slim, leather-bound tablet from his briefcase and tapped a few times. “Your Honor, my compiled submission reflects the vigorous, if occasionally unconventional, defense strategies employed.” He looked pointedly at me. “Certain unforeseen procedural adjustments were necessary.”

It was his final dig, his last chance to frame his chaos as strategic.

My turn. I took a deep breath. My hands, surprisingly, were steady. I connected my own tablet to the main display, its interface clean and precise. On the central screen, a perfectly ordered digital log of the entire simulation appeared. Every correct entry, every timestamp, every accurately cited legal precedent was there, a stark contrast to Arthur’s performance.

Then, I did it. I activated the hidden directory I’d discovered in the firm’s backend. The text thread, the one detailing Arthur’s “controlled collapse” strategy, flashed across the screen for everyone to see. Each message, each coded instruction, each reference to “procedural chaos” and “liability transference,” was laid bare.

A collective gasp rippled through the room. The senior partners, who moments before had looked bored or irritated, now sat bolt upright, their eyes wide with shock. Judge Holbrook’s usual composure cracked, her mouth opening slightly.

Arthur, who had been about to say something dismissive, froze. The blood drained from his face, leaving him ashen. His smug grin vanished, replaced by an expression of pure, unadulterated horror. My evidence wasn’t just a rebuttal; it was an expose.
