Chapter 9: The Silent Override

#content-1

👉 Previous Decision: You chose Option B – Execute a silent system-wide data purge override, broadcasting the text logs and financial audit directly to state regulatory servers.

Davenport’s eyes narrowed, sensing my resistance. “I said step away, Novak.”

My fingers remained glued to the keyboard, a blur of motion only I could follow. I knew Davenport controlled the local network, the firewalls, the ability to erase any trace. But I also knew the ancient, forgotten pathways. The backdoors left by engineers like me, for emergency-of-emergencies.

I initiated a system-wide data purge override. Not local. Not internal. I was routing the recovered text messages, the financial audit logs, the entire damning package, directly past local firewalls. Straight into the Federal Communications Commission and State Auditor automated repositories. They had systems designed to detect exactly this kind of breach—an unscheduled, unapproved dump of sensitive data.

The system demanded a master key. My master key. A core identifier that tied me to every action, every command I’d ever executed. To ensure the transmission bypasses Davenport’s override attempts, I had to intentionally corrupt it. Fracture my own digital fingerprint. It was an irreversible felony violation of municipal network safety laws.

I took a deep breath. My career, my future, everything I had built, would be destroyed. But so would his.

My fingers paused, hovering over the final command. Davenport was striding towards my console now, his face a mask of rage. He lunged, reaching for the power button.

I slammed my hand down. Enter.
