Chapter 1: The Feast of Betrayal

#content-1

Part 1

💰 **My Old-Money Father Tried to Sell My Ancestral Home for a Lavish Wedding — But I Held a Secret He Couldn’t Fathom.**

Eleanor always knew her father prioritized appearances. He just filed the papers for her sister Blanche’s $75,000 wedding.

Then, at Thanksgiving dinner, he announced he was selling Eleanor’s ancestral home for $2.1 million to cover the extravagant costs. He told her she needed to vacate by February.

She stared, numb, as he dismissed her protests, the family’s “old money” facade cracking under the pressure of his desperate ambition. But I held a quiet knowledge he couldn’t fathom.

The rich aroma of roasted turkey and cranberry sauce filled the elegant dining room, but the festive air shattered the moment Alistair Finch tapped his crystal glass. He stood at the head of the gleaming mahogany table, a self-satisfied smile playing on his lips.

“Good news, everyone,” he boomed, his gaze sweeping across the family. “Blanche’s wedding will be truly spectacular. To fund it appropriately, I’ve secured preliminary agreements for the sale of the Everhart Ancestral Home.”

My fork clattered against my plate. My ancestral home. The place where generations of Finches had lived, where I pursued my scholarship.

“What?” I managed, my voice thin. “You can’t. That’s *my* home.”

Alistair waved a dismissive hand. “Eleanor, dear, you’ve always occupied it in a caretaker capacity. We’ve already initiated steps to legally clarify that position, should there be any… misunderstandings.”

He fixed me with a hard stare. “You will need to vacate by February. This is for the family’s future.”

The “old money” facade cracked around him, revealing the desperate ambition beneath. He was already moving, already planning to erase my claims. He had signed papers, initiated legal steps, and given me a deadline. What could I do against a betrayal already in motion?

Part 2

I found Blanche later that evening, still basking in the glow of her impending wedding.

“Blanche,” I started, trying to appeal to our shared history, “this is our home. Not just a fund for your wedding.”

She barely looked up from her phone, manicured fingers tapping impatiently.

“It’s a family asset, Eleanor, and frankly, a bit of an albatross around Alistair’s neck.”

Her tone hardened. “You’re being irrational. Just let him sell it. We all benefit. He’s already getting impatient with your protests, you know.”

She even suggested, a sly glint in her eye, that I seemed “unstable” lately.

Alistair, clearly bolstered by Blanche’s support, quickly instructed Mr. Reed to expedite the sale.

Within days, hushed whispers began circulating through our social circles.

I heard that I was “unfit” to manage such a historic property, that my “eccentricities” were becoming concerning.

I realized I wasn’t just fighting my father, but a united front of social manipulation.
