The Doppelgänger’s Funeral: How a Small-Town Land Appraiser Uncovered His Own Staged Death and Business Partner’s $4.2 Million Scheme
👉 Previous Decision: You chose to direct-confront Nora Bramwell, Derrick’s paralegal, at her residential home.
I waited in the shadows near Nora Bramwell’s modest home, my nerves frayed. When her car pulled into the driveway, I stepped out, blocking her path.
She gasped, her hand immediately reaching for a canister of pepper spray in her purse. Her eyes narrowed.
“Arthur? What do you want, you thief? Get away from my house!” she spat, her voice tight with anger.
“Nora, please, listen to me,” I said, holding up Julian Kildare’s original hand-written 2019 survey ledger, which I had carefully preserved. “This is Julian’s ledger. He never signed over his land. Derrick forged everything. My death, the theft… it’s all part of it.”
Her gaze fixed on the ledger. Her hand slowly lowered from her purse. Her face, initially defiant, crumbled.
A tear slipped down her cheek. “He… he threatened to fire my brother, Arthur. He’s got a family, he can’t lose that job. Derrick said he’d make sure no one in Gideon Crest would hire him if I didn’t cooperate. I had to forge the filings.” Her voice broke, a raw, desperate sound.
The fear in her eyes was genuine. She wasn’t a willing accomplice, but another victim caught in Derrick’s web.
