Nora led me down into her small, damp cellar, the air cool and musty. She switched on a bare lightbulb, revealing stacks of old boxes and forgotten furniture.
“He keeps a backup, an encrypted server drive,” Nora whispered, her voice still shaky from her confession. “He’s paranoid. Thought no one would ever find it.”
She reached behind a loose brick in the wall, pulling out a small, metallic USB flash drive. She held it out to me, her hand trembling.
“I secretly copied it from his private desk last month. I always had a bad feeling about some of his deals,” she said, her eyes fixed on the drive. “It contains deleted server logs. Everything. But it’s encrypted with a high-level key. It requires a specific kind of terminal, something with legacy administrative access, to bypass his security.”
My fingers closed around the cold metal of the drive. This was it. The key to everything. The real proof.
