Chapter 11: The Shattered Silence

#content-1

Cassandra’s eyes, blazing with fury, immediately locked onto Lily. The sight of the child atop the revered heirloom table, a perceived disruption of her moment of triumph, sent her into a rage.

“Get away from what isn’t yours!” she shrieked, her voice echoing off the polished walls.

She lunged forward, her hand outstretched. Before anyone could react, she roughly shoved Lily from the table. The little girl tumbled to the floor, a cry of shock and pain escaping her lips.

A collective gasp went through the room. My own heart leaped into my throat.

At that exact moment, Arthur Brightwood, who had been standing next to Cassandra, rushed forward. His eyes, usually so composed, widened with a shock so profound it made him physically recoil.

He didn’t look at Cassandra. He looked at Lily.

He knelt, his gaze locking onto Lily’s terrified face as she began to cry. Her unique blue-green eyes, her delicate jawline, the specific curve of her lips – it was a dawning, undeniable realization.

The shocking similarity to his own features was undeniable. This child. *This child is his daughter.*

He reached out a trembling hand, not to console her, but as if to touch something he couldn’t believe was real. The air crackled with the unspoken truth.

The boardroom, which moments before had been a chamber of corporate power, shattered into a scene of raw, devastating human drama.
