Chapter 16: (RESOLUTION / EPILOGUE): Two Weeks Later

Caleb, emboldened by his verbal demolition of his father, wasted no time. He knew his window was closing. He moved with a desperate urgency, summoning the Elder Council for an emergency assembly.

His goal: to excommunicate me, publicly and definitively, and to freeze all family trust distributions permanently, consolidating every remaining asset under his control. He needed to present a united front, to blame me for all the missing funds, for the military’s intrusion, for the looming financial crisis.

The twenty-three Elders, somber in their ceremonial robes, sat in a hushed circle in the Sanctum’s grand assembly hall. Elder Thomas, still reeling, took his place at the head of the council table, his face ashen, his gaze distant.

Caleb stood before them, a performative air of righteous indignation about him. He began to speak, his voice soaring, accusing me of treason, theft, and desecration of the sacred enclave.

“She has brought the military to our doorstep!” he thundered, gesturing wildly. “She has stolen our funds, undermined our authority, and blasphemed our sacred covenant!”

He reached the crescendo of his speech, preparing to call for the emergency vote. The Elders shifted, their faces a mixture of confusion and anger. Some looked at Elder Thomas, who remained motionless, staring at the polished table.

“I therefore move,” Caleb declared, his voice ringing out, “that Colonel Hannah Finch be immediately excommunicated from the Sanctum of the New Dawn, and that all financial ties to her be severed forthwith!”

A few Elders murmured their assent. The vote was about to be called.

Just as the first Elder opened his mouth to second the motion, the heavy, ornate wooden doors of the assembly hall were thrown open with a resounding crash.

The sound echoed like a thunderclap, silencing Caleb mid-sentence.

Silas Drake stood in the doorway. He was not a physically imposing man, but his presence commanded absolute, terrifying authority. His dark suit was immaculate, his expression cold and unreadable.

He stepped into the hall, his eyes scanning the frozen faces of the Elders. Behind him, four silent, heavily armed syndicate enforcers followed, their faces masked, their movements precise.

And beside Silas Drake, his jaw set, his eyes hard, was Security Chief Elijah Kincaid.

Elijah’s gaze locked onto Caleb, a silent accusation passing between them. The air in the assembly hall crackled with an electricity that had nothing to do with faith or family. This was raw power, arriving to collect its due.

Caleb’s triumphant sneer vanished, replaced by stark, visceral terror. His carefully constructed world had just been invaded by the very demons he thought he could outrun.
