Eleanor leaned forward, her heart pounding. “And?”
“It’s complicated, as these things usually are with Elias,” Miller said. “On paper, she’s clean. Reputable. But I pulled some strings, looked into a few holding companies Elias is connected to.”
He paused, then continued, “There’s a financial arrangement. Not direct bribery, nothing obvious we can trace straight to Elias’s personal accounts. But there are complex, untraceable payments flowing from one of his obscure holding companies to a shell corporation linked to Dr. Reed’s practice. It’s designed to be opaque, but the timing of these payments, coinciding with her report… it raises serious questions.”
Eleanor felt a surge of relief, followed by frustration. “So you can’t *prove* he bribed her?”
“Not in a court of law, not yet,” Miller admitted. “But I have enough to cast serious doubt on the impartiality of her report. The judge will listen to that.”
He then looked at her, his gaze firm. “And that doctored bank record you found? With the altered digit? That’s compelling. My team is working on confirming the paper trail for ‘Azure Sky Corporation.’ It’s taking time, but we’re getting closer.”
