A Midnight Package Delivered To My Desk Contains A Severed Hand And A 60-Minute Timer Pointing To My Son's Family
👉 Previous Decision: The story continues from Chapter 17.
The inquiry panel chief nodded to Sarah Lindqvist. Rather than Clara speaking, it was Sarah who took center stage. She opened the certified box, pulling out stacks of printouts.
“The evidence is clear,” Sarah began, her voice resonating through the room. “Based on subpoenaed logs from an offshore server, the $1.2 million wire transfer wasn’t random.”
She pointed to a projected spreadsheet. “Layer 1: Clara Novak executed this transfer from her private laptop. The timestamp matches the exact minute Captain Novak was en route to the warehouse, after receiving the cooler.”
A gasp rippled through the room. Clara’s expression remained unreadable.
“Layer 2,” Sarah continued, navigating the complex financial data. “The threat of police intervention, orchestrated by the severed hand, forced rival syndicate captains to surrender their digital keys to these accounts. Their fear of exposure, fueled by Captain Novak’s response, allowed Clara to consolidate access.”
She paused, then delivered the final blow. “And Layer 3: Julian Novak, Captain Novak’s son, was a willing co-conspirator. These signed affidavits confirm he granted Clara full power of attorney, knowing her intent was to consolidate total control over the DeLuca syndicate. This wasn’t extortion. This was a hostile takeover, engineered from within the family.”
The room erupted in murmurs. The truth, ugly and intricate, hung heavy in the air.
