A Midnight Package Delivered To My Desk Contains A Severed Hand And A 60-Minute Timer Pointing To My Son's Family
👉 Previous Decision: You chose to drive to the coordinates alone in an unmarked patrol car.
The last digit on the pre-programmed cell phone’s timer flipped to zero. A low thrum vibrated through the concrete floor. It was followed by a series of sharp, muffled thuds from deep within the warehouse walls. Remote detonators.
Acrid smoke billowed from stacked chemical barrels. Secondary incendiary charges ignited, hungry flames licking at the steel beams. The entire structure groaned.
The heat was instantaneous, searing my skin. I tried to run, but the air was thick, suffocating. My lungs burned. A roaring sound filled my ears as the warehouse turned into a fiery maw.
Hours later, coughing up black smoke, I was dragged free by arriving fire crews. My body ached, every muscle screaming in protest. The air was filled with the smell of ash and burnt metal.
Paramedics tried to tend to my burns. Then, a uniformed officer approached, his face grim. “Captain Novak, you’re under arrest.”
My head snapped up. “On what charges?”
“Investigators found Eddie Bruno’s blood,” he said, holding up a clear evidence bag containing a familiar signet ring. “Inside your personal vehicle’s trunk.”
I stared at the ring, the symbol of the very family I had tried to protect, now the instrument of my undoing. The truth, the meticulously planned setup, remained buried in the ashes of the warehouse, and my own ruined reputation.
