Leo opened his mouth to protest, to present the hair sample and the ring, but Deputy Brody was already moving. His hand clamped onto Leo’s camera bag.
“We need to ensure your safety, Mr. Kincaid. This will be held for your medical assessment.”
Before Leo could react, his bag was gone. His notes, his camera, the crucial evidence—all confiscated under the guise of concern. He was gently, yet firmly, escorted from Arthur’s home.
The next morning, the scent of pine and damp earth still heavy in the air, Leo found himself on a Greyhound bus. His press credentials, he was told, were temporarily revoked for “psychological evaluation.” His meticulously gathered notes had vanished.
