👉 Previous Decision: You chose to share your cellar findings with Grant and team up to open the vault.

“There’s a hidden camera in the keypad,” I told Grant, my voice hushed. “And an audio bug. And Arthur’s birthdate on the lock.”

Grant’s eyes narrowed. “Eleanor. Always playing the long game.” He turned his laptop screen toward me. “This might help explain some things.”

He pulled up a series of high-resolution satellite photos. The images showed a sleek, familiar yacht, Arthur’s yacht, off Martha’s Vineyard. But something was wrong.

“This is the day of the ‘accident’,” Grant explained, tapping a point on the screen. “See the boat here, alone, in the middle of a clear channel? Zero occupants visible.”

My breath hitched. The images showed the yacht, perfectly intact, then a flash, then an explosion. A massive fireball consumed the empty vessel.

“The Coast Guard report listed Arthur as the sole casualty,” I whispered, my vision blurring. “They said he was on board. They found… fragments.”

“Fragments of an empty boat,” Grant corrected, his voice flat. “The explosion was staged. A pre-programmed charge. Looks like a classic insurance fraud setup. A $25,000,000 corporate life insurance payout. And guess who managed the payout claim?”

My stomach dropped. “Harrison Croft.”

Grant nodded. “Bingo. Croft handled the ‘asset liquidation’ too. The vault, the camera, the birthdate code. It’s all connected. Eleanor orchestrated Arthur’s disappearance, probably with Croft’s help, to collect that massive policy and then keep you under control.”

He reached into his bag, pulling out a small, metallic device. “This is an electronic lock-pick. I use it for secure archives. It can bypass digital keypads like the one on the cellar door. Silent, no alarms.”

He held it out to me. The cool metal felt heavy in my hand.

“Ready to go back down there?” Grant asked, his gaze unwavering. “We’re going to find out what Arthur left behind. And what Eleanor is trying to hide.”

I looked at the lock-pick, then back at the satellite images of Arthur’s burning, empty boat. Six months of grief, of questions, of feeling like I was losing my mind. Eleanor’s cruel deception.

“Ready,” I affirmed, my voice hard as stone.
