Trapped in an Iron Cage by His Outlaw Brother, an Ex-Con Tracker and His Wife Risk $2.5 Million in Underworld Gold and Their Lives through Explosive Hidden Traps and Paternity Betrayals
Eli walked slowly towards me, his eyes gleaming with malicious satisfaction. He circled me once, his shadow falling across my bound form.
“Looks like your little escape was short-lived, Silas,” he sneered, nudging my side with his boot. “And your ‘gold’ with old man Croft? Another one of your pathetic lies.”
“You always underestimate me, Eli,” I mumbled, my voice still muffled by the gag, but my eyes fixed on the emissaries from Don Alvarez.
One of the emissaries, a lean man with a perfectly tailored suit and an impassive face, raised a hand. “Enough, Eli. We are here to observe, not to witness a parlor trick.”
Eli straightened, a flicker of irritation crossing his face before he smoothed it away. Even he knew he couldn’t openly defy Don Alvarez’s representatives.
“Indeed,” Eli said, pouring himself another drink. “Just a final lesson for my wayward brother.”
Boyd, who had remained silent, stepped forward. “Eli, before we proceed, Silas insisted on presenting something to the council. A final plea, he called it.”
Eli scoffed, but a glint of suspicion entered his eyes. “What nonsense is this?”
“He claims it’s documentation regarding your… recent affairs,” Boyd said, his voice carefully neutral. He reached into his coat and produced a thick, sealed envelope – the same one I’d taken from Croft, now with an additional, shorter letter I’d written inside.
He placed it on the table directly in front of Don Alvarez’s emissaries. Eli’s eyes narrowed, but he hesitated to interfere with something Boyd had presented to the council’s men.
The lead emissary, a man named Castillo, picked up the envelope. He broke the wax seal, his movements slow and deliberate. He pulled out the lab report first, his gaze quickly scanning the pages. Then he pulled out my letter, a concise, damning confession detailing Eli’s embezzlement and the true paternity of his alleged heir.
The saloon fell silent. The clinking of glasses, the low murmur of conversation, all died away. Every eye was on Castillo as he read.
His face remained expressionless, but his grip on the papers tightened. He handed the documents to his associate, who read them with equal solemnity. The other syndicate captains, sensing the gravity, leaned forward, trying to catch a glimpse of the incriminating text.
The name “Don Arturo Alvarez” on the paternity report echoed in the sudden quiet, a profound betrayal delivered directly to the council’s face. The accusation of embezzling “$2.5 million from the cartel council,” money Eli had claimed was lost in a botched shipment, landed like a death knell.
Castillo looked up, his gaze fixing on Eli. His voice, when it came, was soft, but it cut through the silence like a razor.
“Eli Rudd,” he stated, his eyes cold and unwavering. “This document, verified by our own sources and labs, states that your heir is, in fact, the biological grandson of Don Arturo Alvarez himself. It also details the diversion of $2.5 million in council funds through forged land deeds, hidden by Harlan Croft.”
Eli’s face, usually so composed, went pale. The blood drained from it, leaving him looking like a ghost. He took an involuntary step back, his eyes darting frantically around the room, from Castillo to Boyd, then to me.
The trap was sprung.
