My High-Society Father Dismissed My Supersonic Jet Warnings As Hysteria Until He Crashed The Simulator — Then The Defense Board Forced Me To Take His Place
The room buzzed with the low hum of shocked conversations. The high-society investors exchanged looks of disgust and disbelief, their faces reflecting the sudden erosion of Arthur Harrington’s reputation. Arthur himself remained still, his eyes fixed on some distant point, his lips pressed into a thin, white line.
I reached back into the open binder. My hand retrieved a heavy, official-looking document, sealed with a red wax stamp. It wasn’t among the financial files. This had come from Julian Croft’s personal vault, retrieved under a specific court order for evidence of financial malfeasance.
“During the discovery process for the financial fraud,” I announced, my voice cutting through the murmurs, “a curious item was found within Mr. Croft’s secure vault.”
I held up the sealed document. It was a thick, cream-colored envelope, its surface slightly yellowed with age. A date, 1998, was clearly visible on the front, along with a prominent, elegant signature: my late mother’s.
Arthur’s head snapped towards me, his eyes wide with a sudden, raw panic. His mask of composure shattered.
“Security!” Arthur roared, his voice cracking. “General Kensington, this is a family matter! Clear the hangar! Clear the press!”
General Kensington, however, did not flinch. He simply raised his hand, gesturing to the two uniformed guards who had started to move towards the podium.
“Stand down,” Kensington commanded, his voice calm but absolute. “Let Dr. Harrington speak. The board will hear this.”
Arthur’s face contorted in a silent scream of fury and desperation. He knew what was coming.
My fingers, steady despite the tremor running through the room, carefully broke the brittle wax seal. A faint, dusty scent of old paper drifted from the opening. Inside, nestled amongst several other pages, was a single, official document.
I pulled it out, my eyes scanning the bold-type heading. Certified Forensic DNA Paternity Analysis.
