Detective Kincaid reached for the smartphone, but I shook my head, my eyes locked on Victoria’s petrified face. This reveal needed to be public, undeniable, and seen by everyone.

“There’s a connection port to the main display,” I said, my voice hoarse. “Project it. Now.”

One of the younger board members, David, recovered first. His face a mixture of shock and disgust, he quickly located the HDMI cable connected to the Great Hall’s central presentation screen. With trembling hands, he plugged in my smartphone.

The massive, high-definition screen, usually used for corporate reports and quarterly earnings, flickered to life. The room plunged into near darkness, illuminated only by the stark, unforgiving light of the projection.

The image that filled the screen was crystal clear, raw, and horrifying. It was 4K footage, wide-angle, taken from a low perspective – Leo’s perspective, thanks to the wildlife game camera mounted on his collar.

The video opened on a dense wall of swirling white fog, the kind that swallows everything. A thick, gnarled tree root filled the bottom of the frame. Then, Victoria’s expensive black designer boots stepped into view, followed by the hem of her dark coat.

Her face, illuminated by the grey morning light, was momentarily visible. She looked cold, determined, and utterly devoid of mercy.

Her voice, now amplified and echoing through the hall, was clearer than ever. “He’s just a child,” she muttered, her breath misting in the cold air. “No one will ever look this deep. No one will ever connect it back to the trust.”

She bent down. Her hand, manicured and ringed, pushed a small, struggling figure. A red jacket flashed. The image blurred as the camera tumbled.

The sound of a child’s startled cry, followed by a sickening thud, reverberated through the vast hall. Then, the video showed nothing but swirling fog and the dark, rough texture of the ravine wall as the camera, still attached to Leo, tumbled downward.

A choked gasp escaped a board member. Another retched, covering his mouth. Harrison Finch stood frozen, his face green. The colossal wolf-dog hybrid beside Leo let out a low, menacing growl, its golden eyes fixed on the screen, as if understanding the horror unfolding.

Victoria watched her own actions unfold, her face contorted in a mask of pure terror and disbelief. Her perfectly constructed facade had shattered into a million pieces.

The video continued, showing Leo’s fall, his landing on a narrow ledge, and then the long, terrifying hours in the cold, misty darkness, punctuated by his small, desperate whimpers. The moments when the large, shaggy form of the wolf-dog hybrid cautiously approached, then nudged him, protecting him from the elements, were captured in stark detail.

The room was utterly silent, except for the faint sound of the video playing. The corporate board, once complicit or indifferent, now stared in open-mouthed horror. There was no denying it. The evidence was irrefutable. Victoria Hallowell had intentionally pushed a four-year-old child to his presumed death.
