King Theron Sent His Adopted Daughter, Elara Veyrith, to the Dragon's Maw for a "Sacrifice" — But Awakened Her Ancient Dragon Kin Instead
Part 1
🐉 **King Theron Sent His Adopted Daughter, Elara Veyrith, to the Dragon’s Maw for a “Sacrifice” — But Awakened Her Ancient Dragon Kin Instead.**
I was led to the ancient Dragon’s Maw altar, believing it a sacred ritual for the kingdom’s renewal. Instead, King Theron, my adoptive father, meant for me to be its final meal.
He embraced me, whispering words of duty, even as his guards tightened their grip on my arms.
The sacrifice, he declared, would consolidate his power over the fractured realm of Aetheria.
Little did he know, his act of betrayal would awaken something far more ancient than his crown.
The granite of the altar was cold beneath my bare feet. A chill wind whipped around the Dragon’s Maw, carrying the scent of something metallic and old. King Theron, my adoptive father, stood before me, his eyes gleaming with an unsettling fervor I’d never seen.
He raised a hand to the sky. His voice boomed for the gathered crowd, but his gaze pinned on me alone.
“The ancient pact demands its due, Elara. For Aetheria’s renewal, your spirit shall join the ancestors.”
A sudden, sickening dread coiled in my stomach. Renewal? Or was this about something else entirely?
The guards, two hulking men in the royal livery, shoved me forward. My heart hammered against my ribs.
This wasn’t a ritual; this was an execution.
I stumbled, staring into the swirling mists that perpetually shrouded the Maw itself. A low growl rumbled from within, shaking the ground.
Theron gestured to the guards.
“Secure her!”
Their grip on my arms became crushing. I strained, twisting, my eyes locking with Theron’s.
There was no love, no sorrow in them—only triumph.
From the depths of the Maw, a colossal, scaled head emerged, its eyes burning like molten gold. It was magnificent, terrifying.
Its breath, hot and heavy, washed over me.
“No!” I cried out, my voice raw with terror and betrayal.
The dragon’s gaze seemed to pierce through me. It lowered its head, and with a ripple of ancient magic, its scales began to melt, its form shrinking, shifting.
In moments, where a beast of legend had stood, a man now knelt. He had hair like midnight and eyes that mirrored the dragon’s molten gold, filled with an ancient sorrow.
He met my gaze.
“Elara,” he whispered, his voice resonating deep within my bones. “I am Draven, your brother.”
My mind reeled. Brother?
“Theron murdered our mother,” Draven continued, his voice rising, raw with centuries of pain. “He stole you, hid your lineage, and now he means to finish what he started.”
King Theron let out a furious roar.
“Guards! Seize him! He’s a sorcerer, a demon!”
Before the guards could move, before my adoptive father could even command them again, Draven’s revelation struck a chord deep within me. A fire ignited in my veins, primal and overwhelming.
My skin began to glow with an ethereal, blinding light, radiating pure energy.
And then, from distant mountains, from hidden caves, a chorus of thunderous roars echoed across the kingdom, leaving Elara’s face contorted in a mixture of fear and fury.
Part 2
Even as the distant roars reverberated, Draven’s voice cut through the chaos. “Seventeen years, Elara. I searched for you, believing you lost forever after Theron’s bloody coup.”
King Theron’s face, momentarily pale with shock, hardened into a mask of righteous fury. He pointed at us, his voice booming for the fearful crowd.
“This is demonic sorcery! A witch’s trick, orchestrated by this… illusion, to usurp my throne!”
His guards, though visibly rattled by the glowing light and the dragons, began to press forward again. Dark shapes now wheeled clearly in the distant sky.
Amidst the rising panic of the onlookers, a hand brushed mine. A small, intricately carved wooden box pressed into my palm.
“Remember,” a voice whispered, urgent and low. I barely saw Sir Kael, Captain of the Royal Guard, before he melted back into the panicked throngs.
I clutched the cool, smooth wood, my fingers tracing the unknown carvings, unsure of its meaning or its sender’s true allegiance.
