Chapter 1: The Empty Account

#content-1

Part 1

👩🏾‍🍳 **My husband stole my business and smeared my name — then the hidden papers changed everything.**

I thought marrying Marcus meant finally rebuilding my life on solid ground after bankruptcy. It was supposed to be my fresh start, a safe harbor.

Then, after weeks of struggling with my new catering business, I found the stack of forged papers hidden deep in his old briefcase.

The documents revealed how he’d been systematically draining my accounts, leaving my dreams in ruins yet again.

I just needed to figure out how to expose him without losing everything else I had.

Nia Jenkins, a resilient chef, poured her life savings into “The Soulful Spoon” catering, hoping for a fresh start after bankruptcy. Marcus Dubois, her charming husband, offered to manage the finances.

She had a major event booked, a huge opportunity, but then a crucial ingredient order was abruptly cancelled. Her supplier called, confused.

“We never received payment for the last invoice, Nia,” the voice on the phone explained. “Your account looks empty.”

Nia checked their joint business account online, her heart pounding. It was nearly empty. She was left bewildered and frantic about the missing funds.

She began to question Marcus’s supposed financial savvy, especially after noticing strange withdrawal patterns that didn’t align with her records.

Part 2

Haunted by the account discrepancy, I discreetly searched Marcus’s home office while he was away, driven by a gnawing suspicion I couldn’t ignore.

My hands moved through his desk drawers, then the filing cabinet, finding nothing that seemed out of place.

It was only when I checked an old, leather briefcase, tucked away in the back of his closet, that I found it.

Hidden in a false bottom, beneath some old tax documents, was a meticulously kept stack of paper bank statements.

Alongside them were registration papers for a shell company, clearly named “Dubois Holdings LLC.”

The statements revealed multiple large, unexplained transfers, directly from our joint accounts, siphoning off every cent of my catering seed money.

Just as I was processing this shocking truth, the distinct click of the front door echoed through the quiet house, announcing Marcus’s unexpected return.
