Chapter 11: Systemic Fallout

👉 Previous Decision: You chose Option B – Stay at dispatch to fax the verified 1888 covenant copy directly to the County Registrar and State Tax Enforcement Division.

“Silas, help me,” I said, my fingers flying across the keyboard. “I need to transmit this. Now.”

Silas, still on his master override, quickly brought up the secure portal for the State Tax Enforcement Division and Northridge Commercial Trust, Julian’s primary lender.

I attached the scanned copy of the 1888 Hollister Property Covenant, highlighting Section 12’s forfeiture clause. I triple-checked the recipient addresses, my heart pounding.

“Sent,” I announced, leaning back, a tremor running through me. The digital documents were now out of my hands.

We watched the screen, a tense silence hanging in the dispatch room. The clock ticked.

Within twenty minutes, automated systemic responses began to trigger. A notification flashed on Silas’s screen: “Northridge Commercial Trust: Immediate emergency freeze on Hollister Holdings LLC credit facility ($2.8 million) due to title defect.”

My breath hitched. Julian’s bridge loans, frozen.

Then, another alert: “County Tax Bailiffs: Automated seizure order generated against Hollister Holdings LLC for $42,000 in defaulted back taxes.”

Julian’s company was falling apart, not with a bang, but with a cascade of digital notifications. The county’s legal and financial systems, slow to react, were now an unstoppable force.

“It’s done,” Silas said, a look of grim satisfaction on his face. “The system is moving. His company is legally bankrupt.”

The automated responses continued, each one a nail in Julian’s financial coffin. No physical confrontation, no desperate chase through the basement. Just the cold, impartial hand of the law, driven by a forgotten clause from 1888.

“He won’t be able to sell the house,” I murmured, watching the alerts. “He won’t be able to do anything.”
