Chapter 16: Two Weeks Later

Julian’s face on the screen was a mask of furious disbelief, then barely contained panic. He had lost control of his own maneuver.

“This is an unauthorized intrusion!” he barked, his voice echoing in the otherwise silent boardroom. “I demand this meeting be adjourned.”

One of the senior trust members, Mr. Caldwell, a man who had served the Winthrop family for decades, cleared his throat. “Mr. Winthrop, Mrs. Winthrop and the other trustees are well within their rights to be physically present for a board meeting concerning Winthrop Capital.”

I took a deep breath, placing my forensic audit report on the table before me. It was a slim, elegant bound document, but its contents were lethal.

“Gentlemen,” I began, my voice clear and steady, “I have here a comprehensive audit of Winthrop Capital’s recent financial activities, along with newly uncovered documents pertaining to the Winthrop Family Foundation Charter of 1924.”

Julian spluttered, “This is irrelevant! This is a vote on leadership stability, not ancient history!”

“On the contrary, Julian,” I said, looking directly into the camera at his projected image. “It is entirely relevant. This audit details $38,000,000 in unauthorized speculative debt, channeled through offshore accounts and leveraged against ancestral assets.”

I saw the flicker of fear in his eyes. He knew I had found it all.

“Furthermore,” I continued, “this original charter contains a spendthrift clause. One that renders any corporate officer personally liable for such debts and, more critically, mandates the immediate suspension of all executive authority, voting rights, and compensation.”

I gestured to Harrison, who held up the leather-bound 1924 charter.

“Based on the evidence presented in this audit,” I stated, “the automated terms of the 1924 spendthrift clause are now triggered.”

On the main screen, a red warning flashed across Julian’s digital attendance tile: “Executive Payouts Frozen. Authority Suspended. Pending Full Resolution.”

Julian stared at the screen, then at me, his mouth agape. He was instantly stripped of everything. His power, his salary, his very voice in the company, all gone in a single, silent, automated action.

The room was utterly still, save for the hum of the servers.
