The next morning, news vans swarmed LuminaTech headquarters. Reporters, their microphones thrust forward, peppered employees entering the building with questions. The corporate courtyard, usually a tranquil space, buzzed with frantic energy.

I watched from a discreet distance, Maya Lin beside me. We received a text from Agent Danforth: “Operation in progress. Maintain distance.”

At 9:17 AM, Julian Kincaid emerged from the main entrance, phone pressed to his ear, his usual confident stride intact. He wore a perfectly tailored suit, completely unaware of the approaching storm.

He spotted the camera crews, his expression briefly flickering with irritation. He tried to duck inside a side door, attempting to avoid the media circus.

“Mr. Kincaid!” a reporter shouted. “Are the allegations of illegal human experimentation true?”

Julian stopped dead. His hand dropped from his phone. His head snapped towards the voice, his eyes wide, confused.

Then, a black SUV pulled into the courtyard, doors flying open. Four agents, two in FBI vests, moved swiftly towards Julian. Agent Danforth, her face grim, led the charge.

“Julian Kincaid,” she announced, her voice cutting through the murmuring crowd. “You’re under arrest for multiple federal charges, including human rights violations and illegal medical experimentation.”

Julian’s face went slack. He stammered, his mouth opening and closing like a fish. “This is… this is a misunderstanding. Project Lethe is a legal research initiative.”

He tried to turn, to walk away, his eyes darting frantically towards the main entrance. Two agents moved in, blocking his path.

“Sir, you have the right to remain silent,” another agent recited, as cuffs clicked around Julian’s wrists.

He froze, his shoulders slumping. His eyes scanned the shocked faces of his employees, some pointing, others whispering. The proud Senior VP, now a humiliated criminal in full view of his staff.

A single tear tracked down his cheek, catching the morning light. It wasn’t remorse, I knew. It was the pain of public exposure, of his carefully constructed empire crumbling.

“This can’t be happening,” he mumbled, his head hanging low as the agents led him towards the waiting SUV.

Maya squeezed my arm. “It’s happening, Evan. It’s really happening.”
