My Father Abandoned Me in the Hospital After Delivery to Take My Sister to Maui — Then He Tried to Drain My Bank Account
Richard Hollings did not allow Arthur to speak. He didn’t even acknowledge Arthur’s slight movement to address the board. Instead, Hollings held up a thick, bound document.
“We have before us,” Hollings stated, his voice devoid of emotion, “a certified third-party forensic audit report, commissioned following a compelling claim of systemic corporate malfeasance.”
Arthur’s smug expression flickered. His attorneys exchanged a nervous glance.
Hollings began to read aloud, his words precise and devastating. “The audit report indicates that Mr. Arthur Danforth, over a period of five years, personally converted approximately $420,000 of Danforth-Holdings’ unrecorded corporate capital, funneling these funds into the operational accounts of ‘Chloe-Style LLC,’ an entity found to be functioning as an unregistered shell corporation for the purpose of tax evasion and personal enrichment.”
The room erupted in a chorus of murmurs. Arthur’s face went ashen, his jaw slackening. His attorneys whispered furiously in his ear.
Hollings waited for silence, then continued, holding up the second document. “Furthermore, the board has been presented with an original, unredacted 1998 corporate trust document, officially sealed by the County Records Archive, pertaining to the founding equity of Danforth-Holdings.”
My heart hammered against my ribs. This was it.
Hollings adjusted his glasses, his gaze fixed on the parchment. He began to read, his voice clear and resonant. “Clause 5.7 of this covenant states: ‘Upon the birth of the primary beneficiary’s first biological child, full voting control of the original 40% equity shares held by Marianne Montgomery, founding partner of Danforth-Holdings, shall be irrevocably transferred to said primary beneficiary, Clara Montgomery-Danforth.'”
He paused, letting the words sink in. Arthur choked, a strangled sound in his throat. His face was a mask of disbelief and pure, unadulterated terror.
“And it is hereby noted,” Hollings concluded, looking directly at me, then at Maya sleeping beside me, “that Ms. Clara Montgomery-Danforth has indeed given birth to her first biological child, Maya Danforth, on [Date of Birth, from Part 1].”
The air crackled with the finality of it. Forty percent. Irrevocably transferred.
“Therefore,” Hollings pronounced, his voice ringing with absolute authority, “effective immediately, the corporate authority of Mr. Arthur Danforth as Senior Vice President of Danforth-Holdings is hereby revoked. Ms. Clara Montgomery-Danforth now holds full voting control of 40% of Danforth-Holdings’ primary equity.”
Arthur lunged forward, his chair scraping violently against the floor. “This is insane! This is a fabrication! I will not stand for this!”
Hollings simply raised a hand. “The documents are certified. The audit is complete. Your authority, Mr. Danforth, is gone.”
