👉 [Previous Decision]: Marcus has broken down and confessed everything under the terrifying weight of supernatural dread.

The silence in the workshop was absolute, broken only by Marcus’s ragged, tearful breathing. He lay slumped against the workbench, his body trembling, believing himself to be utterly alone in the dark with Clara Finch’s wrath.

I slowly, deliberately, turned on the flashlight on my phone.

The beam cut through the inky blackness, illuminating the scene. Marcus flinched, shielding his eyes, then slowly lowered his hand. His face was streaked with tears and grime, his eyes wide, bloodshot, and utterly devoid of his usual charismatic arrogance. He looked broken.

He stared at me, then his gaze dropped to the floor around his feet. Nothing. No doll, no invisible force. Just the cold, concrete floor.

My flashlight beam then drifted to the workbench. There, perched motionless amidst Marcus’s scattered tools, was the Jumeau doll. Its glass eyes, still and unblinking, seemed to track his every movement. I had brought it with me, hidden in my bag, and placed it there while Marcus was distracted by the unseen.

Marcus gasped, a choked sound, as he saw the doll. His terror returned, fresh and potent. He tried to scramble away from it, but he was still too weak, too overwhelmed.

“Clara…” he whispered, his voice barely audible.

I held up my small, black digital voice recorder. The tiny red light on its side was still glowing, indicating it had been recording. Every word of his confession, every desperate plea, every specific detail of his fraud, his gambling debts, his father’s betrayal, and his plan for my vault, was captured. Pristine audio quality.

Marcus’s eyes fixed on the recorder, then on my face. The realization dawned on him, slowly, sickeningly. He hadn’t been alone. I had been there, listening. Recording.

The terror in his eyes morphed into something colder, a dawning horror of a different kind. He had been so consumed by supernatural dread that he had revealed everything, unaware that his former best friend was meticulously documenting his downfall. The doll, a silent witness, seemed to watch him too, its glass eyes reflecting the harsh truth of his exposed lies.
