Chapter 18: Aftermath

#content-1

👉 Previous Decision: You pulled the switch, broadcasting your father’s confession across North Carolina.

Within twelve hours of the storm broadcast, the world around Fort Bragg imploded. State police cars and federal prosecutor vehicles swarmed the military base. Harlan O’Rourke’s private offices were raided.

O’Rourke himself was arrested attempting to flee to South America, found with $85,000 in cash—funds traced directly from the fraudulent land transfers.

Uncle Silas Pendelton was taken into custody for accessory to land fraud and evidence suppression. His farm, the only home Arthur had ever known, was seized by federal marshals.

Julian Finch, true to his word, surrendered to military authorities. He was placed in stockade custody, awaiting a court-martial for operational misconduct and evidence theft. He would forfeit all of his military back-pay, $18,200, and likely face years in federal prison.

Arthur stood in the ruined studio, the smell of ozone and burnt wires thick in the air. News reporters, their cameras flashing, gathered at the front gate, shouting questions he couldn’t answer. Lily tugged on his hand, her small face looking up at him, bewildered by the chaos.

The truth was out. The monsters had been exposed. But the cost was immense.
