A Dying Teenager Discovers His Wife Poisoned Him For His Fortune, Fights Back From His Hospital Bed
Julian Hayes paced his lavish penthouse apartment, the city lights a blur beyond the floor-to-ceiling windows. Silas Croft’s discreet inquiries had begun to close in, subtle but unmistakable. Calls to his gallery, quiet questions about his financial dealings, even a strange voicemail from a bank associate asking about “account irregularities.”
He knew what was coming. Genevieve’s plan was crumbling, and he was caught in the wreckage. He could almost feel the walls of his precarious financial world caving in.
His debts, already formidable, had only mounted during his ‘downtime’ assisting Genevieve. He’d envisioned a life of effortless luxury in St. Barts, not this suffocating dread.
He pulled out his phone, his hands clammy. This was his last chance.
He navigated to his banking app, his fingers flying across the screen. Genevieve had set up a joint account for their escape funds, filled with money siphoned from Asher’s assets.
He found the account, a staggering balance staring back at him. Enough for both of them, yes. But more than enough for him alone.
Julian initiated a large transfer, a substantial portion of the funds, into his private offshore account. He clicked confirm, a tremor running through him.
He pictured himself on a private jet, then on a beach with a cold drink, far from Genevieve’s demanding glare and Silas Croft’s piercing questions. He was a survivor, not a victim.
A moment later, his phone vibrated with an unexpected notification. “Transaction Flagged: Funds Frozen. Please contact your financial institution for details.”
Julian stared at the screen, a cold wave washing over him. Frozen? What did that even mean?
He frantically tried again, another transfer, smaller this time. Again, the same message.
“No,” he gasped, his voice hoarse. “No, no, no!”
He threw the phone across the room, watching it bounce off a plush sofa. This wasn’t happening. His escape route, his only way out, was gone.
The bank, already alerted by Silas Croft’s subtle maneuvering and Asher’s new will clauses, had flagged all movements from the Caldwell estate’s associated accounts. Julian’s desperate attempt triggered an immediate freeze.
Minutes later, his phone, retrieved from the sofa, vibrated again. It was a text message. From Genevieve.
“Julian. What. Have. You. DONE?”
Each word was a separate, icy stab. He could practically hear the venom in her voice. He had been caught.
His heart hammered against his ribs. Genevieve wasn’t just furious; she was terrifying when her plans went awry.
He frantically typed a reply, then deleted it. What could he say? That he was running for his life? That he couldn’t trust her anymore?
He knew her wrath would be swift and brutal. She wouldn’t forgive him for this. Not after all they had risked.
He imagined her face, twisted in a mask of fury. She would connect the dots immediately. His sudden attempt to flee, the frozen funds.
He sank onto the sofa, his head in his hands. He was trapped. Trapped by his own greed, by Genevieve’s machinations, and now, by his failed double cross.
He was no longer just her accomplice. He was her target.
The St. Barts villa, the life of luxury, all of it evaporated like mist. He was back to where he started, perhaps worse.
He knew Genevieve would demand answers. And she wouldn’t be gentle.
My phone buzzed in my hospital room. It was Silas.
“Asher, a development,” he said, his voice clipped. “Julian Hayes just tried to transfer a significant sum from a joint account he shares with Genevieve into an offshore account.”
“And?” I prompted, a flicker of anticipation.
“It was flagged and frozen immediately,” Silas stated, a hint of satisfaction in his tone. “Our system is working. And Genevieve received an alert.”
A small, grim smile touched my lips. “He tried to cut her out.”
“It seems he tried to cut and run,” Silas confirmed. “A classic move when pressure mounts. It tells us he’s feeling the heat, Asher. And it confirms his direct involvement in their financial schemes.”
“What does Genevieve do now?” I asked. “She won’t take kindly to this.”
“She won’t,” Silas agreed. “This will push her. She now knows Julian is a liability, a loose end. Expect a confrontation. And hopefully, that confrontation will yield more information.”
“So his greed is going to be his undoing,” I mused, a bitter satisfaction warring with the pain in my chest.
“Their greed, Asher,” Silas corrected gently. “It will be both their undoing.”
I leaned back, a new wave of energy surging through me. Julian’s betrayal of Genevieve was proof that their alliance was fragile, built on shifting sands of mutual self-interest. The crack in their foundation was widening.
“Keep me updated, Silas,” I said, feeling more awake, more alive than I had in weeks. “Every detail.”
My focus sharpened. This wasn’t just about my life anymore. It was about dismantling their entire house of cards, piece by painful piece. Julian’s failed escape was the first significant blow against them, and I intended to make sure it wouldn’t be the last.
