My Sister Called My 8-Year-Old Daughter Useless at Her $300,000 Wedding — Until My Daughter Took the DJ Mic and Revealed the Federal Wiretaps That Ruined the Groom
Frank Caruso nodded, his movements slow and deliberate. He pulled the weathered leather ledger from under his arm. The cover was worn smooth, the corners frayed with age. He placed it carefully on a small, ornate side table near the head table, the kind usually reserved for floral displays.
He opened the ledger to a specific page. The paper was yellowed, covered in precise, old-fashioned handwriting and columns of numbers.
“The $1.8 million stolen from the Moretti syndicate in 2016,” Frank began, his voice clear and unwavering, “was laundered through a series of offshore accounts. Then, it was funneled into a Delaware shell corporation.”
He tapped a finger on a line in the ledger. “The company’s name: ‘Lakefront Holdings LLC.'”
Julian leaned forward, his eyes scanning the details on the page. A ripple of confusion went through the guests. A shell company?
“Lakefront Holdings LLC,” Julian repeated, a frown creasing his brow. “That name… it’s familiar.”
Frank looked directly at Julian. “It should be, Julian. Because Lakefront Holdings LLC holds the sole legal title to this very building. The Lakefront Hotel and Grand Ballroom.”
The words hit the room like a thunderclap. Julian’s head snapped up, his eyes widening in disbelief. His gaze swept around the opulent ballroom, taking in the towering ceilings, the crystal chandeliers, the priceless art on the walls.
“This venue?” Julian asked, his voice barely a whisper. “The twelve-million-dollar property where we are holding our wedding… it was bought with my uncle’s stolen money?”
Frank nodded grimly. “And the sole owner of Lakefront Holdings LLC,” he added, pointing to a signature at the bottom of a corporate deed in the ledger, “is Sophia Ricci.”
Sophia’s face, already pale, turned a sickly shade of grey. Her mouth opened, but no sound came out. She clutched at the lace of her gown, her knuckles white.
Julian stared at her, the realization sinking in. His bride hadn’t brought wealth to their marriage. She hadn’t even brought a legitimate business merger. She had bought her way into his family, into his life, using his own uncle’s stolen money. The whole lavish spectacle was a monument to her deceit.
Carmine Moretti, who had been listening intently from his seat, slowly rose. His eyes, dark as obsidian, fixed on the ledger. He walked to the table and, without a word, reached out to inspect the shell company signature pages. His silence was more terrifying than any shout.
