My Sister Called My 8-Year-Old Daughter Useless at Her $300,000 Wedding — Until My Daughter Took the DJ Mic and Revealed the Federal Wiretaps That Ruined the Groom
The screams still echoed in the vast hall, Sophia’s voice shrill as she pointed at me. Three hundred pairs of eyes shifted from the large projector screens, now playing on every guest’s smartphone, to Maya standing bravely on the DJ dais.
Two security guards, thick-necked and stern, started pushing through the startled guests, their gazes fixed on my daughter. One was Guard DeLuca, a man whose face held no mercy.
“Get her off that stage!” Sophia shrieked, her voice hoarse now. “She’s a menace!”
I moved without thinking, a surge of pure instinct. I planted my feet, grabbing the heavy brass display stanchion that held a floral arrangement of white roses. It weighed more than I expected, the base solid and cold in my hands.
I swung it in an arc, not aiming to hit, but to block. The stanchion clanged against the highly polished marble floor, creating a barrier between the advancing guards and the dais.
“Stay back,” I warned, my voice low. My arm muscles tightened, bracing.
The guards hesitated, momentarily surprised by my defiance. They exchanged a glance, clearly not expecting a physical obstacle.
Then, a new presence emerged from the service pantry doors at the far end of the banquet hall. An elderly man, slight of build, dressed in a crisp white waiter’s uniform, stepped into the light. He held a small, black device, a master transmitter switch, in his trembling hand.
His eyes, framed by kind wrinkles, swept across the room. He seemed to take in every detail: the stunned guests, Sophia’s rage, Julian’s bewildered face.
Julian Moretti, still standing by the altar, his face a mask of dawning horror, visibly stiffened. He squinted at the man, a flicker of recognition crossing his features.
“Deacon?” Julian muttered, his voice barely a whisper. “Frank Caruso?”
Frank “The Deacon” Caruso, the retired syndicate bookkeeper who had vanished after my arrest eight years ago, nodded slowly. His gaze landed on Julian, holding it steady.
He lifted his chin, speaking in a clear, surprisingly firm voice that carried through the stunned silence. “Under syndicate honor, Julian,” Frank declared, his eyes unwavering. “The voice on those recordings? It’s Sophia’s. Indisputably.”
A collective gasp swept through the room. Julian’s hand went to his chest, his eyes locking with Sophia’s, now filled with a chilling, dawning accusation.
