My Sister Stole My True Love Five Years Ago and Humiliated My Daughter at Her Wedding — Until Recovered Texts Revealed the Truth
The robotic voice continued to list messages, but no one was listening anymore. Julian’s raw admission about the trust fund and the hidden medical check had ripped away the last shreds of pretense.
Nora Hensley stepped forward, her elegant silk gown rustling as she moved into the aisle. Her face, usually so composed, was contorted with a mixture of fear and defiance.
“This is unseemly, Julian,” Nora’s voice, though sharp, trembled slightly. She addressed him directly, bypassing the stunned guests. “Chloe did what she had to do. For the family.”
Julian looked at her, his expression cold. “For the family? You mean to say, leaving Elena to suffer alone, to give birth alone, was ‘for the family’?”
“Elena brought this upon herself!” Nora declared, her voice rising. “Her… her choices! Blowing the whistle on that corporation! It ruined our standing in society! The Montgomerys, Julian, you are old money, old connections. We needed to protect Chloe, to ensure she had a future that was… stable.”
She gestured wildly toward Chloe, who was still frozen beside Maya. “Elena chose a path that shamed us. Chloe chose to uphold our name. To secure a future for our family, with *your* family, Julian.”
My breath caught in my throat. I pressed my ear against the cool wood of the door, every word a fresh stab. Nora was admitting it. She was openly stating their motive.
“And the medical check?” Julian demanded, his voice resonating through the speakers. “The $15,000 I sent for Maya, for Elena’s recovery? You hid it.”
Nora flinched. Her eyes darted to Chloe, then back to Julian.
“It was a necessity!” Nora exclaimed, her composure finally cracking. “Elena was a liability! She would have dragged you down. Your parents, Julian, they would never have approved of a girl like Elena. A single mother, no prospects, a whistleblower! We… we had to ensure you married into the right social circle.”
She wrung her hands. “We knew you cared for Elena. We knew you would help her. But that would have ruined everything! It would have forced Elena back into your life, and out of Chloe’s.”
Nora’s admission hung in the air: she had helped Chloe hide Elena’s hospital admission to ensure Julian married into their high-status social circle. This was it. The absolute, unvarnished truth. The betrayal went to the very top. My mother had actively participated in my undoing.
“You hid my hospital admission from Julian,” I whispered, though no one could hear me. The words felt like ash in my mouth.
Julian simply stared at Nora, his face a mask of profound disappointment. He didn’t need to say anything else. Nora’s confession had sealed their fate, and shattered any remaining illusions he might have held about Chloe or her mother.
Chloe whimpered, a small, pathetic sound. Her gaze, which had been fixed on Julian, now fell to the floor. The weight of their combined deceit was crushing her.
