The studio descended into chaos. The moderator, regaining his composure, stammered, “Mrs. Danforth, these are serious allegations…”

“They are not allegations,” Nana Beatrice cut in, her voice firm. “They are facts. And I have more.”

She turned to me, her eyes commanding. “Elena, the other proof.”

I knew exactly what she meant. I pulled out the encrypted flash drive Brenda Vance had verified. A quick glance at the control booth confirmed my suspicion: the technicians were too overwhelmed, too confused, to stop me.

I approached a nearby broadcast monitor, found an open input port, and with a surge of adrenaline, plugged in the drive. A few rapid clicks, and the screen flickered.

“This,” I announced, my voice clear and strong, overriding the scattered murmurs and protests, “is what happened in the green room of the Capital Plaza Hotel, right before Victoria Danforth’s press conference.”

The live feed, which had been switching frantically between Nana Beatrice, Victoria, and the moderator, suddenly cut to the pristine, high-definition security camera footage.

It showed Evelyn Danforth, her face pinched with concentration, pulling the deflated foam pillow from inside Victoria’s dress. Then, carefully, deliberately, she stuffed a fresh, rounded one in its place, smoothing Victoria’s gown.

Victoria, standing with her back to the camera, adjusted her shoulders, the illusion complete.

The clip played in agonizing slow motion, then at normal speed. The details were undeniable. The texture of the foam. The furtive glances Evelyn cast around the room. The casual way Victoria settled into her new, manufactured maternity.

On the live broadcast, Victoria gasped, her hands flying to her stomach, as if to physically shield her secret from the camera. Evelyn, who had been shouting at a stage manager, froze, her face a mask of horror.

The internet, already alight with Nana Beatrice’s revelations, exploded. Tweets, shares, and news alerts flashed across my own phone screen. “#FakeBellyGate” and “#ClarissaDanforth” were trending topics within minutes.

Outside the Convention Center, a low rumble began to grow, soon turning into a roaring tide. Honking horns, shouting voices, the distinct sound of a crowd gathering.

I looked out the panoramic window of the studio. Hundreds, then thousands, of people were streaming towards the building. Tenants, neighbors, citizens of the municipal district, their faces grim, their signs hastily scrawled.

“Fraud!” they chanted, their voices echoing through the city streets. “Danforths out!”

The public outrage was immediate, overwhelming, and utterly unmistakable. The Danforth dynasty, once so entrenched, was crumbling under the weight of its own deception, exposed for the entire city to see.
