The emergency family council convened digitally the next morning. Aunt Evelyn, usually unflappable, looked tired and grim. Uncle Ray sat beside her, his jaw set.

Sam and I sat on my couch, my laptop open, displaying the faces of dozens of relatives. Marcus was absent.

“Maya,” Aunt Evelyn began, her voice strained. “We saw the end of your live stream. We heard Marcus. This is all very… disturbing. We need to see the full evidence you claim to have.”

I cleared my throat, then projected the images. First, the bloodstained watch, its vintage beauty marred by the dark stain. Then, the original receipt for the mountain cabin, clearly showing Marcus’s name as the purchaser and a significant sum debited from my mother’s trust.

“And finally,” I said, my voice steady, “Marcus’s own handwritten confession.” I showed the letter, zooming in on his distinctive signature, then read the most incriminating passages aloud again.

A silence fell over the digital meeting, heavy and stunned. Uncle Ray ran a hand over his face.

“My God,” Aunt Evelyn whispered, her eyes wide with a mixture of shock and disgust. “Systematic deception… For years.”

“I have his digital ledgers, too,” Sam added, his voice cutting through the silence. “Two years of skimming, diverted funds, shell corporations. It’s all here.” He held up a thick binder.

The family members online murmured, their faces reflecting outrage. The patriarchs and matriarchs had seen enough.
