The Queen Declared Her Son an Imposter After He Uncovered His Twin's Dark Secret – Now He Fights for Truth and Love in Eldoria
Kaelen’s gaze swept over the approaching Royal Guard. Retreat felt like another surrender, another admission of defeat. He clutched the hilt of his sword, his jaw set.
“No,” he said, his voice firm. “We face him.”
Lyra’s eyes widened, but she saw the resolve in his stance. Sorin merely nodded, a silent understanding passing between them.
Kaelen stepped out from their hidden perch, onto a ledge overlooking the pass. His voice, amplified by the natural acoustics of the chasm, cut through the morning air.
“Thane Alaric!” he called out, his voice echoing. “I demand to be heard!”
Below, the column halted. Thane Alaric, clad in polished steel, rode forward, his face etched with grim determination. He raised a hand, ordering his men to ready their bows, but paused, recognizing Kaelen’s voice.
“Prince Kaelen,” Alaric called back, his voice thick with what sounded like genuine sorrow, “You are no longer Prince. You are an imposter, a sorcerer who has woven a dark spell over the hearts of good people. Surrender now, and face the Queen’s justice!”
Kaelen felt a fresh wave of pain. Alaric, the man who had taught him swordplay, who had been a trusted advisor, truly believed he was evil. He remembered Alaric’s unwavering loyalty to the Crown, a virtue now twisted into a weapon against him.
“You have been misled, Thane!” Kaelen shouted, trying to appeal to the man he once respected. “The Queen has poisoned Liam, and forced me into hiding!”
Alaric’s face hardened further.
“These are the lies of a desperate man,” Alaric retorted, his voice rising in conviction. “The Queen protects Eldoria from your dark magic. Seize him!”
Arrows whistled past Kaelen’s head. Lyra, moving with swift grace, deflected one with her own small blade, a gift from her father. Sorin ducked back into the cave, guarding the journal.
“We have to go!” Lyra yelled, pulling Kaelen towards a perilous descent down a rocky ravine.
The skirmish was brief but brutal. Kaelen fought with a fierce, desperate energy, his blade a blur as he deflected thrusts from Alaric’s men. Lyra, nimble and quick, dodged and weaved, her movements precise. She had always been a keen observer, and that skill translated into surprising agility in a fight.
As they made their harrowing escape, scrambling down the sheer face of the ravine, Kaelen glanced back. He saw Alaric, standing at the precipice, his face a mask of furious frustration.
“He is possessed!” Alaric roared, his voice cracking with emotion. “He must be stopped for Eldoria’s safety!”
Then, with a sickening crunch, Alaric slammed his fist against the rock face, sending a small, ornate silver brooch—a family heirloom of the royal house Kaelen had worn since childhood—tumbling into the abyss. It was a symbolic act, a harsh dismissal of Kaelen’s very claim, an unconscious cruelty driven by misguided loyalty.
The words echoed in Kaelen’s ears, a chilling confirmation. Alaric was not a malicious agent; he was a true believer, utterly manipulated by Elara’s web of lies. His mother had not only turned the kingdom against him, but she had twisted the loyalty of her most honorable protector into a tool of his destruction.
They continued their treacherous descent, the raw stone scraping their hands. They landed hard at the bottom, bruised and shaken, but alive. The true weight of Elara’s deception pressed down on Kaelen, heavier than any physical injury. His mother had poisoned his brother, branded him a sorcerer, and now forced his most loyal soldier to hunt him down, believing it was for the good of the kingdom.
