Part 1

💔 **I tried to expose my husband’s affair with a corporate pen—but my anonymous tip landed a man in the hospital.**

Evelyn found a sleek, silver corporate pen in her husband Robert’s company car, unaware it would shatter her entire world.

Tucked inside its barrel, she discovered a tiny, encrypted micro-SD card and a note with Vanessa Caldwell’s name, Robert’s executive assistant.

When she anonymously sent a copy of the encrypted data to Vanessa’s bewildered husband, David, Evelyn hoped only to expose the affair she suspected.

Hours later, she received a call that David had been rushed to St. Jude’s Medical Center after a horrific car accident following a violent argument with Vanessa.

The phone slipped from Evelyn’s grasp, clattering onto the kitchen tile. The frantic, unfamiliar voice echoed in her mind: David Caldwell was in St. Jude’s Medical Center after a horrific car accident.

Her heart hammered against her ribs. She had only meant to expose Robert’s infidelity, to seek a small measure of justice. She hadn’t wanted this.

Her gaze fell on the sleek, silver corporate pen on the counter. It seemed so innocent, but she knew the secret it held.

The encrypted data, sent to David, was the match that lit this fire.

A cold dread seeped into her bones. Vanessa’s husband was gravely injured. The caller mentioned a violent argument with Vanessa right before the crash.

What had David found? What had she truly unleashed?

This wasn’t merely an affair. The corporate pen, the hidden data, Vanessa’s name—it all twisted into a terrifying knot.

This was far more dangerous than she could have ever imagined.

She pressed a trembling hand to her mouth, the terrifying weight of her actions pressing down on her.

What if David didn’t survive, leaving her with this deadly secret, and no way to stop what she had started?

Part 2

The thought chilled Evelyn to her core. She had to know. She had to see David, to understand what horror she had accidentally unleashed. Snatching her car keys, she ran out the door and sped toward St. Jude’s Medical Center, her mind a whirlwind of fear and guilt.

The hospital waiting room was sterile and silent, a stark contrast to the storm raging inside her. A nurse directed her to David’s room, her voice hushed and sympathetic. Evelyn pushed open the door, her breath catching in her throat.

David lay pale against the white sheets, his head bandaged, an IV drip running into his arm. His face was bruised, and his arm was in a sling. He looked nothing like the bewildered man she had seen in photos.

Vanessa sat hunched in a chair by his bed, her shoulders trembling. Her face was tear-streaked and blotchy. She didn’t even look up as Evelyn entered.

Evelyn approached the bed slowly, her heart pounding. David’s eyes fluttered open, unfocused and glazed with pain. He mumbled something unintelligible. Vanessa finally looked up, her eyes narrowing when she saw Evelyn.

“What are *you* doing here?” Vanessa hissed, her voice raw.

Evelyn ignored her, her gaze fixed on David. He stirred again, a low groan escaping his lips. His eyes found Evelyn’s, a flicker of recognition mixed with terror.

“The files,” David rasped, his voice barely a whisper. “Eleanor’s files. They’ll destroy everything.”

Evelyn leaned closer, trying to make sense of his disjointed words. “What files, David? What about Eleanor?”

He clutched at the sheet, his knuckles white. “Not just personal. Deeper. They were all there. The real texts.”

Vanessa gasped, a sharp, choked sound. She pushed herself up from the chair.

David’s voice grew fainter, his eyes drifting shut. “On the drive. Robert and Vanessa. Much worse.”

“What was worse?” Evelyn pressed, a new wave of dread washing over her. “What was on the drive?”

His breathing became shallow. “Not an affair. A cover. For everything.”

Vanessa suddenly stood, grabbing Evelyn’s arm. Her grip was surprisingly strong. “Get out of here! You did this!”

Evelyn pulled away, her eyes still on David. He was slipping back into unconsciousness. His last words echoed in her ears, a chilling, incomplete puzzle.
