My Stepfather Sent Me To Patrol A Forest Sector With Standalone Wooden Stairs, Then Erased My Coordinates From The Dispatch Server
Jonah quietly slipped the active wildlife tracking beacon into the open rear window of Gregory Coyle’s luxury SUV. The scent lure began its work, a synthetic aroma designed to carry far through the forest. He circled around to the shed’s side window, melting into the pre-dawn shadows.
Within twenty minutes, heavy rustling in the dense underbrush signaled the approach of a large male black bear. The animal was drawn by the beacon’s powerful attractant. Coyle, inside the shed, heard the metallic scratching on his car door. He peered out, his eyes wide with terror as he saw the massive silhouette of the bear.
Panic seized him. He snatched his briefcase, screaming, and sprinted out of the shed. His expensive shoes slid on the damp gravel as he fled into the trees, leaving Arthur standing alone inside with the unsigned land transfer papers.
Jonah stepped out from the shadow of the water tower. His phone camera was on, recording in high-definition video mode. Arthur emerged onto the porch of the maintenance shed, his face a mask of confusion, looking at the retreating sound of Coyle’s frantic shouts.
