My Promoted Mob-Tied Husband Blamed My Mother After Syndicate Enforcers Shaved Her Head — So I Shaved Mine, Took Our $1.2M Trust, and Exposed His Entire Empire
Leo Varga’s affidavit was a game-changer. It wasn’t just my word against Marcus’s anymore. It was hard evidence from an insider, a direct link between Marcus, the Moretti syndicate, and the orchestrated attack on my mother.
Armed with this, Clara’s legal team moved quickly. We filed for an emergency deposition, ostensibly to settle the marital asset division as part of our divorce proceedings. Marcus, desperate to regain control and likely still believing he could intimidate me, agreed. He saw it as his chance to finally corner me, to demand the release of the trust.
The conference room for the deposition was stark, with a long polished table and a court reporter clicking away in the corner. Marcus sat opposite me, flanked by his two expensive corporate lawyers. He looked smug, confident in his ability to lie his way out of anything. He still thought I was just an emotional wife, driven by spite.
My attorney, a sharp, experienced woman named Sarah Chen, began with questions about our shared finances, the trust, and the general operations of Garrick Logistics. Marcus answered smoothly, rehearsed, always deflecting, always implying I was the one responsible for any “misunderstandings.”
“Mr. Garrick,” Sarah asked, her voice deceptively mild, “do you have any knowledge of any illicit dealings, any organized crime connections, or any illegal accounts associated with Garrick Logistics?”
Marcus sat up straighter, his chest puffed out. “Absolutely not,” he stated firmly, looking directly at me with a triumphant glare. “I have always operated with the utmost integrity. Any rumors to the contrary are malicious fabrications designed to discredit me by my estranged wife.”
He continued, his voice rising with feigned indignation. “I swear under oath, I have no knowledge of any mob involvement, offshore accounts, or any illegal activities whatsoever.”
The court reporter’s fingers clicked furiously, recording every word. Marcus’s lawyers exchanged satisfied glances. They thought he had sealed it, shut down any possibility of federal involvement.
Sarah Chen smiled faintly. “Thank you, Mr. Garrick. Just to clarify, you are unequivocally stating that you had no knowledge of, and played no part in, any activities related to the Moretti crime family or any illegal financial schemes involving Garrick Logistics?”
“That is correct,” Marcus affirmed, his voice resolute. “Under oath.”
“Excellent,” Sarah said, picking up a remote. “Then perhaps you can explain this.”
She pressed a button, and a small speaker on the table came to life. The audio quality wasn’t perfect, but the voices were unmistakable. It was a phone call, recorded by Leo Varga, just before he signed his affidavit.
Marcus’s voice filled the room, tinged with panic: *”Tell your guys, tell Dominick, I need two weeks. Just two. Get a message sent. Something loud. My mother-in-law’s house. It’s a clear signal, right? They’ll get it. Make sure it’s dramatic enough to hold them off for a little while.”*
Then, a gruffer voice, an enforcer, responded: *”We’ll make sure they get the message, Marcus. Consider it done.”*
The recording clicked off, leaving an oppressive silence in the room. Marcus sat there, utterly rigid, his jaw hanging open. His lawyers were staring at the speaker, then at him, their faces pale with shock. They had not been informed of this recording.
“Mr. Garrick,” Sarah Chen stated, her voice cutting through the silence like a knife, “you just swore under oath that you had no knowledge of any mob involvement. This recording, provided by Mr. Leo Varga, directly contradicts your testimony. You are now formally locked into felony perjury.”
Marcus’s face contorted, a mix of rage and terror. The trap had been sprung. He hadn’t just lied, he’d incriminated himself in a federal felony, broadcast for everyone to hear. His deposition, meant to trap me, had become his own undoing.
